In this first episode, I talk about how UDL principles and authentic learning assignments, such as choice boards, can be used to digitally enhance lessons. I also discuss some of my favorite digital tools and project options that are related to UDL, such as Pear Deck or Flip Grid!
GooseChase helps review activities and help students use digital platforms/ tools to become introduced to different units. Using the GooseChase digital platform, students will conduct competitive research to gain further insight into this unit’s theme and review notes from the previous activity. In addition, the “meme” activity will replace a standard KWL chart by urging students to collaborate with partners and discuss specific scenarios.
Digital Book Reflection
Students will choose one project to complete as a book review assignment for their independent reading novel. This will foster an authentic learning experience by allowing students to choose between different creative writing assignments and platforms, which will culminate and help prove their understanding of their topics. In addition, students will be able to create CD jacket covers, book covers, or character resumes to help recap the main details of their independent reading book.
B) 4.4: Help educators use digital tools to create effective assessments that provide timely feedback and support personalized learning.

Interactive Notes w/ Quizziz
Quizziz is an interactive e-learning platform that uses gamification elements to enhance learning and increase student engagement through interactive content. Teachers can add various features to a lecture or lesson plan, which calls for student engagement in teams, as individuals, or asynchronously on their own.
The following presentation serves as a guide to both educators and students on the challenges and benefits of using Quizziz as an authentic learning resource.
Read&Write Software "How-To"
Read&Write is an interactive e-learning software tool that educators can install via the Google Chrome store. In this application, various digital tools help personalize learning for students with assistive text-to-speech software, annotation tools, voice feedback, and much more!
C) 4.4: Collaborate with educators to design accessible and active digital learning environments that accommodate learner variability.

Online Learning Guide (Referenced in Podcast)
Students can use this online learning guide at the beginning of the school year (posted on Google Classroom) to help troubleshoot potential technical problems and learn to navigate our digital learning platform.
Choice Board Example Assignment
To acknowledge a variety of learning needs in the classrooms, students have a choice board available to them with different completion assignments. Students are completing this choice board in response to a story covered during the AIR test unit. The choice board is also aligned with UDL principles by engaging students to display their knowledge in various ways based on their learning needs.
Dystopian Pear Deck Presentation w/ UDL Principles
The following video walks through the main principles of UDL: engagement, representation, and expression. This video aims to talk about the fundamentals of UDL and how educators can use it through Pear Deck. Then, using this sample lesson, I show how educators can use Pear Deck to create different question types and how questioning can lead to debates, SEL-related slides, and exit ticket choices. These all can be added to give students multiple outlets to show their understanding differently.
D) 4.4: Model the use of instructional design principles with educators to create an effective digital learning environment.

Digital Responsibility
We are pushing as a society for our students to be more involved with digital education, yet there is something unnatural about our contradicting expectations of them using technology. As educators, we fear technology is distracting and possibly putting students at risk when non-educational events happen. Therefore, teachers should take time to educate how digital responsibility helps create mature technology users and more responsible students. In this Google Slides, students are taught about empathy and are given scenario questions to teach responsible responses. There is also a web quest that aims to teach how to create a safe digital environment for students.
4 C's of Education
Robert M Shipley's 4 C's instructional design model talks about how communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity are all essential elements in online and in-person teaching. This short podcast discusses how the 4 c's of education can be applied in a digital classroom to help enrich our lessons and daily activities. In the podcast, I provide some of the activities students have completed in each category and why each category is important in teaching. Kasey Bell provides a digital learning menu for teachers to create their own activities to enrich student learning.
