Lesson Details: This lesson was developed for an ELA 11th-grade course that centers on the theme of the "American Dream." The learning objective of this introductory lesson relates to the following overall course objective (as listed in the ELA 2 Curriculum Map). Through this video, students will complete this lesson through Pear Deck responses while receiving visuals and auditory cues to answer different types of questions about tone, diction, and context. This lesson will be a precursor to a more significant lesson which will have them compare and contrast two poems with similar themes. 

Lesson Objectives: 

1. Students will be able to analyze how an author's use of diction and tone in poetry shapes reader perceptions.

2. Compare similar ideas as explored in different poems.
