Why is computer networking so important, you may ask? On occasion, it BLENDS both software and hardware to help expand resources quickly between technology. Do you ever think about the magic of telephones or how power can transfer so soon? This comes from the magic of computer networking. Like humans, technology collaboration comes with many benefits and can benefit both educators and students in a classroom setting. However, "while this is good for your business operations, and makes your workflow easier to maintain, it also presents a challenge for security" (Cynet, 2022).
Through this webpage, you will take ownership of your digital responsibility to remain safe and secure when networking in educational and personal settings.
How Does Network Security Work?
"An effective network security plan is developed with the understanding of security issues, potential attackers, needed level of security, and factors that make a network vulnerable to attack"(Daya, 2013, p.2)
To help enhance network security, take ownership, and implement ethical networking software and hardware uses. As educators and technology advocates, it should be the role of a teacher to help educate students and colleagues to recognize phishing emails and other threats.
WEB SECURITY: Protects users from ransomware and malware that might compromise user data.
MONITORING: Monitors domain for any stolen information or compromised data.
FIREWALL: Protects unwarranted access to one's network.
According to Daya, "to lessen the vulnerability of the computer to the network there are many products available. These tools are encryption, authentication mechanisms, intrusion detection, security management, and firewalls. Businesses throughout the world are using a combination of some of these tools" (2013, p.2). These following products, along with many more techniques can be used to educate others on the importance of digital responsibility. If a user is aware of the different programs that can be used to keep them safe, this will better help their network security.

WHAT IS NETWORK SECURITY?
As users of technology, we are responsible for educating ourselves on how to protect our networks with cybersecurity. However, higher institutions, such as the Government, also play a role in ensuring safety.
According to Bay, network security is defined most commonly as "the activity or process, ability or capability, or state whereby information and communications systems and the information contained therein are protected from and/or defended against damage, unauthorized use or modification, or exploitation" (2016, p. 5)
Cybersecurity and protecting our networks, and our data, are essential because network security threats can expose personal information to different types of online attacks. In the most serious of situations, network attacks can lead to:
1. Malware
2. Data Hacking
3. Phishing
4. Network Attacks
AND MANY MORE THREATS
These attacks all come with their threats, so it is essential to implement different solutions to safely and securely protect oneself in a digital environment.
