Mouse Pads Under $10

By: Liam Baumgartle

Gaming on a PC means you probably want a mouse pad, but you likely just spent a couple grand on a PC and you don't want to spend another $30 on a mouse pad. So here are three mouse pads that are under $10. The first is a normal mouse pad that you can find on Amazon made by steelseries, I use this mouse pad and it is very good, especially for gaming. I recommend this if you are more of a high sensitivity player like me. The price for this mouse pad is $9.50 or you can get a smaller one for $7. This mouse pad also has silky cloth so your mouse easily glides across it. Our second mouse pad is for more intense and high sensitivity gaming; you can fit your keyboard and mouse on this one and it has the bonus of a map design on it. This one can be found on Amazon as well, but there are some bad parts about it, for example how big and cheap it is. The texture is a waterproof mat so it has more of a plastic feeling and isn't very good feeling on the hand used for the mouse. This mouse pad only comes to $9. Are last mouse pad is one for more casual things rather than gaming. This is a wrist support mouse pad with a gel-ish feeling wrist rest, it also has the same silky feeling as the steelseries.

Xbox One Adaptive Controller

By: Liam Baumgartle

This year, Microsoft had the idea of a controller not for someone that has regular functions, but also not for people that have disabilities; more of a Controller that adapts to you. It is a basic board with five buttons and a D-Pad. The two main buttons are huge, taking up most of the board. But the thing is that you can add more buttons like Rb, Rt, A, Y and so on. It's not like normal triggers and buttons, it can be whatever you want as long as you have it and it can plug in so you can use it as other buttons. The price of this controller $100. The xbox adaptive controller is an exciting innovation in gaming that will alway those with disabilities access to gaming.

Feel Real VR Attachment

By: Liam Baumgartle

A Kickstarter company called Feel Real has created an attachment for VR headsets that makes your VR Experience more real. With the scent cartridges that you put in the attachment, there are fans that blow smells at your nose depending on the situation, for example, if you are in a race and do that epic gamer drift or fighting that epic gamer dragon with your double barrel shotgun, it has you covered: you will smell the burning rubber from that drift and that gun powder from that shotgun. There are other features such as temperature change and different temperature wind, so if you are getting torched down by a flamethrower you will feel some heat on your face or if you are climbing Mount Everest in a blizzard you will feel a chill breeze on your face. So far this product is just a Kickstarter but it is compatible with many headsets such as Oculus, Vive, PlayStation VR, Samsung VR and also compatible with games like Skyrim VR.

Puget Systems

The company was founded in 2000, made by Jon Bach. He had this idea for a company when he was in college and dropped out of his third year to pursue his dreams of the company he quotes in an interview with Smarter Every Day, “We don’t really ask what hardware you want, we ask what are you trying to do and then we can tell you what hardware you want.” The idea for the company is to make a custom PC to fit just what you want. You can go on their website and pick between four options. 1st is content creation, this PC is meant to be a computer for editing, photography, post-production, and visual effects. The 2nd PC is for 3D printing and modeling. 3rd PC is for graphing, recording data, and for a scientist in general. 4th PC is for streaming gaming, and VR. When choosing a custom PC, it asks what is the software you will most use such as Adobe, or Unity and more. Also when you click on one of the options it gives you PC brand that would be good for your use. I try out building a couple of computers on the website for myself and I picked a basic streaming PC and an advanced streaming PC. The basic PC recommended Intel Core i7, 500gb Samsung hard drive, and for graphics an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, The total price came to $2390. When I built the advanced streaming PC, it recommended Core i9, 500GB Primary Drive and a 4TB Secondary Drive, with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 for Graphics.

Nvidia Geforce Now

By: Liam Baumgartle

The graphics card company Nvidia has created a way to play games on a PC that can’t really run them. The application is called Nvidia Geforce Now and to get it you have to sign up and be put on the waitlist. Although it can take a while it is well worth the wait. It works from severs all across America and some in U.K and it connects you to there computer servers and streams the game to your screen, right now you need pretty good wifi to run it but it is pretty innovative. I asked Hayden Swank some questions about what he had and how Nvidia Geforce Now changed his gaming experience. First I asked what computer do you have and what are the specs. He responded, “Macbook Pro 2012, and my specs are Intel Core I5, 8gb of memory, 16gb of Ram, 500gb Hard Drive, 2.3Ghz Speed.” The next questions I asked him was what fps did you get on CSGO before and after you got Geforce Now. His response was: “I originally got about 12 fps but after having Nvidia Geforce Now it got up to 320 fps.” after asking him questions I looked at the application itself and it was a similar layout to epic games.

(Thanks to Hayden Swank for the interview)

Xbox Project Scarlett

By Liam Baumgartle

Microsoft, the popular tech company that created the gaming console Xbox, is working on their 4th Xbox also known as the Xbox Project Scarlet. The project manager's name is Phil Spencer. The main reason they have decided to put this Xbox out earlier is to compete with Playstation creating the PS5. We do not yet know to much about it other than it will exist. It’s not confirmed but people are expecting to have this by 2020 at the earliest. One thing we can confirm for sure is that there will be better graphics, better CPU, and better storage, and just overall better software.
