Mary Poppins Jr. Play

Fifth graders did a play called “Mary Poppins Jr.” They already did three shows and they are doing one more this week for the whole fifth grade. We asked two students from Ms. Towells class which are Marwa and Ryder. At first we asked, “Which role do you play?” Marwa said, “I am penguin number two and Ms. Banks.” Following is Ryder, and he said he is part of the stage crew. Second we asked “What do you enjoy about it?” She said “acting and getting to be a part of it.” And he said “It’s a cool thing seeing that students pulled it off together.” Next we asked “Are you nervous to perform?” Marwa said, “No, because I performed a lot of times in classes and plays.” Ryder is not nervous about anything. Lastly, we asked “What’s your favorite part of the whole play?” Marwas responds “Probably when we sing supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” and Ryder said “I like the whole play because it’s really cool.”

Oregon Trail

Sara and Catherine interviewed 4th graders about the Oregon Trail. They are mimicking the Oregon trail at the track. They are doing 5 laps around the track, and learning about it in the classroom. Each fourth grade class has 40-45 minutes to walk and pull their wagons.

We asked Esme and Tyson from Ms. Lowenberg’s class “What do you like about it?” Esme responds “I like that we get to kind of experience what it was like. I started it in Redding, Pennsylvania.” Following is Tyson, he said “I like that we get to experience more of the world and that they had an opportunity to start a new life and it was probably better than your old life.” Then, we asked Esme “Who are you in the Oregon Trail?” She said “ mom of two, I usually like to paint and sew. My daughter usually misses the gun shot when it’s time to wake up and I usually wake her up.” Tyson said: “I am a carpenter that adopted a child. When the wheel starts to break down I usually can fix it because I have nails and a hammer. I started Frankfort, Kentucky but the Oregon trail actually started in Independence, Missouri.”

We interviewed Sasha and asked what she liked about it and she said ¨it was fun and I liked making the wagon. You feel like you're experiencing it because it feels like you’re in the Oregon trail.¨ Next I asked Lolo, and she said: ¨it was fun experiencing the Oregon trail and doing the wagon because you get to make them and put stuff in them¨ and then I asked “what are you” and Sasha said: ¨I’m Violet Walker, a pioneer in the Oregon trail. I'm 16 and have a family and I’m very outgoing.¨ Lolo said ¨I'm a pioneer. I'm shy but strong and have my little brother and my little sister coming with me and Elithabeth Baker and 23.” I asked where it took place and they both said that it started in Missouri. I then asked what they learned and Sasha said ¨there was sickness and spreading and family would die¨ and Lolo said that she learned ¨to be careful with the wagons and that a lot of people die¨


What did you learn?

Esme: I used to think that the wagon was really big but there’s people and their resources get in the way.

Tyson: the forts are actually trading areas. At first, I thought they were people that were trying to kill you.

Sasha: many of the pioneers and that a lot of people got sick and died.

Lolo: To be careful with the wagons and that a lot of people die.

Student Interview

Today, Sara and Catherine asked a bunch of K-5 students questions. First we asked them “Would you rather be a kid or an adult?” Cypress said: “ I rather be a kid” When we asked why, she said “Because it is fun and kids can squeeze into tiny places and adults can’t.” Next we asked Logan and he said he would rather be an adult “because then I could do what my dad does because he's a car mechanic and that's what I want to be.” Also Claire said she wants to be a kid “because as a kid you don't have to drive, and you don't have to pay for taxes and you are not rushed.” Next, Vaughn and he said that he’d rather be a kid “because you don’t have to pay taxes and your not as busy.” Following is Oly and she would rather be a kid “because you can do more stuff.” Lastly, Tommy wants to be a kid more “because kids don't have to do as much and can do mostly do whatever they want to.”

We asked what animal they would want to be. Cypress said: ¨A cheetah. Because they’re one type of animals that can run the fastest.¨ Next we asked Logan, and he said ¨a puma because that's my favorite animal because I love them and because they are really strong.” Vaughn said he’d be ¨a snake because they have cool skins and actually see stuff on the ground.”

Claire: tiger because I like how they look and it would be cool to just run around and stuff.¨ We then asked Tommy and he said ¨a bird because I could just fly around and just be free.¨ Finally, we asked Oly and she said a ¨turtle because they always near water and I like being in the water and I like swimming.¨

Shrek Musical Interview

This Thursday and Friday, May, 16th and 17th, the Shrek Musical is at 7pm at the cafeteria and Saturday is at 4. So we interviewed People that are apart of the play and asked them questions.


We asked “What's your role in the shrek musical?”

Sophia said “I am a part of the stage crew.” Next is Melanie, she’s also in 7th grade and she said “My role is the dragon, a duloc performer and a frog.” Then Owen, he said his role is “Lord Farquaad.” Next is Sloane in 8th grade. Her role is Donkey. Lastly, Dane in 8th grade is Shrek.


Next we asked “What are you excited about for the play?”

Sophia said: “I'm excited to see the reaction of everyone that's gonna watch.”

Melanie said: “I'm excited to make people laugh and smile and just having fun.” Then Owen said he’s excited to be on stage. Following is Sloane, and she said: “I'm excited to share my confidence I gained over the last two months with my family and friends.” Lastly, Sloane and she said “Seeing my friends execute the musical, they've all been doing a great job so far and I'm excited for them to see it.”

What are they nervous for?

I asked Sophia what she was nervous for in the musical and she said “forgetting to set out props.” and then next we asked Melanie and she said “to not be on time.” Owen said he wasn’t nervous. Sloane said she was nervous “For people’s reactions and messing up.” lastly we asked Dane and he said “Definitely having family members watch me.”


What is your favorite part of the whole play?

So we asked Sophia what was her favorite part out of the whole play and she said “Doing the play practices and getting to hang out with everyone.” Then we asked Melanie and she said “seeing people become their characters.” Owen said: “The wedding scene.” Next, we asked Sloane and she said: “The dragon scene because we put so much time and effort into that whole scene coming together.” Lastly, we asked Dane and he said ¨Getting to do something we've worked on for so long finally coming to fruition.¨

Teacher appreciation week

This week, we interviewed students about teacher appreciation week. We asked K-5 students what they did to show their appreciation for their teachers. First, we asked two students from Ms. Donner’s class “What do you appreciate about your teacher?” Ava responded, “I appreciate that she’s nice and respectful.” Then, Laurel said, “I appreciate that she is always really kind and give them mint Friday if they do good” Then we asked what they did to show their appreciation, and Ava said, “I got her purple flowers.” And Laurel shows her appreciation by always paying attention in class and being respectful.

Next we interviewed Mr. Le’s class and we asked the same questions. Isabella said that she likes that Mr Le loves for them to learn. And Ocean said that their teacher loves “to help teach us about stuff that are new and makes classroom fun.” Then, we asked them how they showed their appreciation and Isabella said “I show it by not being disruptive in class.” Ocean shows it by being nice to Mr. Le.

I asked Kirby what she appreciates about her teacher and she said “that she willing to explain things over think if needed and that she doesn’t get mad that often.” I then asked her what she does to appreciate her teacher and she said “I bring her little gift bag from trips that i would go on.” Next, we interviewed Samuel and he said that he likes when their teacher leaves them on a cliffhanger in a book. I also asked him what he does to show appreciation and he said “I gave her a pot of flowers” I interviewed Nathaniel and he said that: “Ms Kreitzer is nice.” To show appreciation: “I raise my hand and give her flowers.”

We asked a diverse group of people about what they are doing in the summer and also what the Panther PRIDE means to them.


First we asked Claire in 7th grade what her plans are for the summer and what she is looking forward to. She said that she is going to an overnight basketball camp, and will go to her grandparents lake house. Also she is looking forward to the 4th of July because they have this big neighborhood party and her dad runs it.

Then, we interviewed Tim in 8th grade and we asked the same questions, he said that he doesn't have plans for the summer, but he is looking forward to going camping with his family. Next is Brandon in 6th grade, and his plans are to go swimming at the pool and he is looking forward for the 4th of July, he is celebrating it at his cousins house.

We also interviewed Madiaa, she is hanging out with family during the summer and she is looking forward to going to the beach and hanging out with few friends. Lastly, Angel in 1st grade is going to a beach during the summer time and he is excited to see the fireworks for the 4th of july.



What does panther PRIDE mean to you?

We asked Tim from 8th grade what panther pride means to him and he said that it means “being kind to people and not hating everything here.”

Next, we asked Claire, and she said that “that you respect your peers and yourself and your teachers, and your nice to everybody.”

Then we interviewed Brandon from 6th grade and he said that “you respect each other and follow the rules.”

Last we interviewed Madiaa and she said “giving respect to others and being kind to everyone.”

Raleigh Hills Family Traditions

We asked a diverse group of students these questions: ¨What is your favorite family tradition?¨ ¨What makes your tradition different from others?¨ and ¨What does diversity mean to you?¨


First, we asked a third grader name Axel. He said that he's from Aruba, and his favorite family tradition is when women put scarfs around their head and there's a lot of food and family members around, but he doesn't remember when it is. Then, we asked him what makes their tradition different from others and he said that ¨the things that they wear makes it different from others.¨ Next, Leticia in 4th grade and her favorite family tradition is Quinceanera and what makes it different from others is that ¨we throw big parties and wear big dresses.¨ Following is Leah in 5th grade and she said that her favorite family tradition is Christmas ¨because you get a lot of presents and get to see family.¨ And she said what makes it different from others is that ¨it's not like Halloween because you get to see family. During Halloween, you get candy, but for Christmas your get to see family.¨ Lastly, we interviewed James in 8th grade and he said that his favorite family tradition is ¨Marzipan is an almond paste. The Norwegians hide it in the oatmeal and you try to find it. ¨ He said that what makes it different from others is that ¨other people don´t do it.¨


We also asked what diversity means to them and Axel said that “it means that people are different and unique in their own way,” Leticia said to “treat others like as to be treated and every one should be equal no matter what race.” Next we asked Leah and she said “you shouldn’t judge their race from what they look like and everyone should be treated.” Finally we interviewed James and he said that “every one is perfect in there own way.”

What are Students up to for Spring Break?

Spring Break is next week starting on March 25, with us returning on April 1. So we went around school and asked a few students of what their plans are for spring break and a this or that question: Nike or Adidas?

The first question we asked was “What are your plans for Spring Break?“ Sophia, a 7th grade student, said: “I´m going to California, in San Jose at the beach.“ Next was Ellie, an 8th grade student, who responded, “I´m going to visit my cousin in Medford, hang out and drive to Redwood forest.“ Then we asked Mary, a 5th grade student, who is going skiing with her friend in Timberline. Following is Alexis, also a 5th grade student and she is going to Disneyland. For spring break, Danica is going to her dad’s house to sleep in and to play with her cat. Next, Elise from 1st grade is going to a Disney cruise for spring break and she’s excited to go on the water slide. George is from 6th grade and he is going to Italy to visit his aunt. Last was Will from 6th grade, and he will be going to Cannon Beach for his birthday. The next and last question we asked them was a this or that: “Nike or Adidas“ Sophia, Mary, Danica, and Elise said that they prefered Adidas. While Will, Ellie, Alexis, George prefer Nike.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

Questions:

We went in Mr Jordan’s Enrichment, which is a mix of 7th and 8th graders. We asked four students (Marianet, Skyler, Matt, and Ripley) these following questions: ”What after school activity do you like to do?,” “Would you rather live in a house shaped like a circle or a house shaped like a triangle?” And “What do you like most about being in Mr. Jordan’s Enrichment?”


First, we interviewed Marianet, an 8th grade student. We asked what after activity she liked to do and she said that she loves hanging out with friends after school. Next, we asked her if she would rather live in house shaped like a circle or a house shaped like a triangle. She said that she would rather live in triangular house because it would be spacious and she wouldn’t feel claustrophobic. Lastly, we asked her what she likes most about being in Mr. Jordan’s Enrichment. She said that she likes “How I get more time to work on homework.”

Next, we interviewed Skyler, an 8th grader. We asked him the same questions. He said that he likes to play basketball after school and he would rather live in a circle shaped house, “Because I don’t like sides.” Lastly, he said what he likes most about Mr. Jordan’s enrichment is that “We get to sharpen pencils.”

Next, we interviewed Matt, a 7th grader. Again, we asked him the same questions. He likes to play basketball after school, and I asked him why would he want to live in a circle house and he said “ because there would be more space”. We asked him what does he like to do in Mr. Jordans class and he said that, “I like to finish work that I didn’t finish”

Lastly, we interviewed Ripley, She’s a 7th grade student. She said that she likes to do Gymnastics after school. Then, we asked her if she preferred to live in a circle shape house or a triangle shaped house. She responds, “I would rather live in a Triangle house because it’s open and taller.” Finally, we asked her what she liked to do in Mr. Jordan’s Enrichment, and she said that she really like working with tiles.

Panther Press Team

This is the Panther Press, the former Red and Black. We have a new staff, that are energetic and enthusiastic. We are going to give you new information and topics that you would find very interesting and fun to read. The questions that we asked the Panther Press groups this week are: “What is your role in your group?” “What is your next story about? And “What are you looking forward to in your group?”

Graphic Design Group

The first group that we interviewed is the ‘Graphic Design’ group. We started with Hayden, and he said that his role in the group is to “make the decisions for the group.” The graphic design group doesn’t write articles, but puts them up on the website, making it easy for everyone to access. He is looking forward to being in his group and “collaborating with his group”.

Next we interviewed Amryn and her role in her group is to “boss the group.” What her group is coming out with for the panther press is the look of the website, and what she is looking forward to in her group is “getting to talk to her groups”.

Next we interviewed Emily and her role in her group is to “make the decisions of the group” and what her group is coming out with is the “panther press website” and what she is looking forward to being in her group “is getting to work with other groups”.

Then we interviewed Hannah, her role in her group is to “help communicate with other groups.” What she is looking forward to doing in her group is “making the website look good”.

Finally, we interviewed Malia and her role in her group is to work on the “pop culture section.”


Tech

The next group we interviewed was tech. The role that Liam is for the tech section is the editor. This week, he will be covering the new Samsung S10 and what he is looking forward to is being in a one person group and learning about all the cool tech stuff.


Advertising team

The group that we interviewed next was the advertising group. Riley said that her role in her group is that she is the main editor of the group. What they will be doing for the Panther Press is that they will be putting up posters up in the school and going into classes to present about the newspaper.


Paper Team

The next group that we interviewed was the paper team. What Brady is looking forward to doing in the group is coming up with cool ideas for the little kids. Next we interviewed Maeci and she said that her role in her group is working together with her group and the story that they are coming out with is the paper copy of the panther press of the newspaper and what she is looking forward to being in her group is coming up with cool ideas for the little kids. Next we interviewed Jaidyn and Mar and their role in the group is to put word puzzles and drawing ideas for the little kids.


Editors

The group that we interviewed was the editors of the panther press, the ones that actually do the editing. Elena's role in her group is to edit the Panther Press group articles of student work. The story that she will be coming out with is a book review of the magic school bus. We also interviewed Elise. Her role in her group is also to edit panther press group work, but she also does middle school book reviews.


Pop Culture:

Next we interviewed the Pop Culture group and we have spoken to Raul, Hunter, Jake and Sophia. First is Raul, he is the pop culture editor and his story each week is a movie review. He is most excited about “being able to lead and make great articles and also to work with my group.” There is also Hunter. His role is to write articles about video games. His first story is about the “Counter Strike Global Offensive Tournament” and he is most excited for “Writing about video games.” Jake’s role is to write about music and his first story is about an Elvis Song and he is most excited about “Teaching people about classic music.” Lastly, Sophia does the music and social media and her first story is going to be about Billie Eilish. She is looking forward to learning new things.


Fashion and Trends:

After that we interviewed Owen from “Fashion and Trends.” He is in charge of the whole article by himself and his first story is “The Jeremy Scott article.” The thing he is most looking forward to is “taking pictures for school styles.”


How To Corner:

Next we interviewed Micah from How To Corner. His role is helping the sports article and doing the how to corner by himself. Micah’s next story for the how to corner is how to have fun in the snow and for the sports section he is doing the Athlete of the week. He is looking forward to “share stuff about sports and teaching people how to do stuff.”


Creative Corner:

After that we interviewed the “Creative Corner” group. We interviewed Angelina, Elena, Reyah, and Ella. First is Angelina, her role is to help people within her team and the next story is making a comic for the newspaper. She is “glad to be helping, and learning how other people draw and write poetry.” Then Elena and Reyah, their roles are helping their group with drawing and they don’t really have a story. They are looking forward to “do a lot of activities, not just writing.” They get to do something she like/loves”


Main Editor:

Next we interviewed the main editors, which are Ellie and Dane. First, Ellie. Her job is to oversee other groups and her next story is going to be about school musicals. She is looking forward ¨to informing people about school and to boss people around.¨ Dane’s job is also to oversee other groups and his story is about the 2020 presidential election. He is looking forward to “working together and having fun.¨


Sports:

Lastly, we interviewed the sports team. First we interviewed Kaden. His job is to write about college sports, and the article that he is currently working on is about the Arizona State and Washington game. He is most excited about writing about sports. Next, James is the ¨Alpha Male¨ in his group and his next story is about High School Basketball (Beaverton). He is most excited about “reporting about the local basketball teams.¨ Lastly, Tony, whose job is to write about professional sports. His next article about the OKC vs Houston and he is looking forward to ¨writing about sports.
