Girls Varsity Tennis

By: James Coats

So far the Girls Varsity Tennis team has had a pretty good season with a record of 4-6-3 (4 wins, 6 loses and 3 ties). Overall Beaverton varsity tennis girls have had some very even matchups throughout this season. Their 3 ties came from Camas High School, Grant High School, and Lincoln High School. The Beavs won against Aloha and Southridge. Beaverton beat Southridge and Aloha twice. The losses that came out of Beaverton’s varsity tennis team, came from Lakeridge, Jesuit, Sunset (twice), Westview, and Mountainside. We really brought it to Aloha smacking them twice, first 5-3 and second 8-0. Beaverton walked away very satisfied with their wins. Now Beaverton is off to the district tournament.

Beaverton Girls Lacrosse vs. Sunset

By: Ellie Lowenberg

The varsity girls lacrosse team from Beaverton High played the varsity Sunset team 5/1/19 at 7:00pm. The game was close the whole time, but Beaverton was up 5-2 at half time. But as the second half went on, Sunset caught up, and with one minute left of the game, the game was tied, 7-7. At one of the final face offs, of regulation, Anna Holt, of Beaverton, won the ball and sped down the field, passing it to an attacker, Annie. Annie closed in on the goal and scored. The game belonged to Beaverton. But at the final face off, Sunset won and Sydney Hankel, of Sunset, took the ball to the end of the field and shot at the goal, tying up the game, forcing it into overtime. It would be a sudden victory. Anna Holt dropped the face off, but Ellie Erdahl got it back for Beaverton and took it to the goal, passing it to #3, Hannah. She ran around the back of the goal to sneak up on the Sunset goal, she shot, and scored. 8-7, Beaverton won.

Beaverton vs Jesuit Lacrosse

By: James Coats

On Friday April 29, at 7:30pm, Beaverton played Jesuit in lacrosse. This was a big game for the Beavers because Jesuit is the best team in the metro league, they have not lost a game yet in the league. It was a tough battle for Beaverton. Beaverton has a current record at 0-4 in the league, as jesuit is currently 4-0. If Beaverton wanted to get a better record, they would have to beat Jesuit, but that didn't happen. I mean, they got absolutely smoked. The final score was 23 to 3. It was tough for Beaverton, but they ended up losing.

Beaverton Vs Southridge

By James Coats

On Tuesday April 23rd, Beaverton Baseball plays Southridge High School. This is a home game for the Beavers and a conference game that they must win. This is a big game for the Beavers because this is a school rivalry.

Beaverton and Southridge has been rivals for 14 years. Once the new Southridge school was built, a lot of Beaverton kids moved schools. Beaverton and southridge have been rivals ever since. Whenever the schools play each other there is always a big gathering. Beaverton has a record of 8-3 which is a very good record coming into the game with home field advantage. So far beaverton has won a game 6-5; and lost a game 4-0, it is a hard fought battle and we hope to see the Beavs succeed.

Beaverton Vs. Wilson High Baseball

By James Coats

On March 13 at 4:30pm, Beaverton Baseball played Wilson High School as there season opener. Beaverton started out strong scoring 5 runs by the 5th Inning. This was a very good lead. They did not lead up, even though they were up by 5-0, they were just going to extend their lead even more.

Each Inning, they extended their lead even more. This was a big momentum crusher for Wilson. For the rest of the game, they were just playing to play. They just gave up. This was good for the Beavers because they could extend their lead and win. Beaverton came out on top winning 11-0 and a sweet victory against Wilson.

Lacrosse

By James Coats

Have you heard of the sport Lacrosse? Chances are, you have not. Lacrosse is a physical sport that includes skill, heart, and mental toughness. I like to think of lacrosse a mix of soccer and football. The positions are just like soccer and the physicality is like football.

The way I found out about Lacrosse was when I was in 3rd grade. My cousins played it I thought it was a cool sport, it looked fun and I was not allowed to play football yet so this was a good way to get away with being physical. This sport contains a lacrosse stick that has a long metal shaft and a head that has a net in it to catch the ball, it also consists of a helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads and gloves, these pads will provide maximum protection so you will not get hurt.

The best way to get into lacrosse is join a local team, this can be indoor or outdoor, it is a good way to make new friends and get active.

Beaverton Boys Vs Central Catholic

By James Coats

On February 26, Beaverton High School played in a playoff game against Central Catholic at Central Catholic. This was a very tough game for the Beavers, as last year, Central Catholic went far in the playoffs, where Beaverton did not. There was big hype around this game with the Beaverton Beavers as a seed 28 and Central Catholic seed 5, everyone wanted an upset. A depressing outcome happened for the Beaverton Beavers as they got beat first round of the playoffs 67-44. This is a season ending blow. The Beaverton Beavers ended the season with 14 wins, and 14 loses.

Beaverton Girls Vs Southridge

By James Coats

On Friday March 7, the Beaverton Girls played against the Southridge Girls Basketball to go to the Championship. It was a very important game for the Beavers knowing that number 22 on Southridge is Steph Curry's goddaughter, Cameron Brink, meaning that if anything were to happen to her parents, then the Curry’s would take her in as his own daughter. She is one of the best Women's player in the league, standing at 6’4 which means she is great down low.

She was hard to contain the whole game. This was a very tough matchup for the Beavers. As much as the Beavers fought, it was not enough they lost and their chance at a championship title. The final score of the game was 46-30 in favor of Southridge. It was a season ending blow, but they are determined to win next year.

Sierra Canyon High School

By James Coats

Sierra Canyon is a High School Basketball team located in California. Their men's basketball team is supposedly the best team in the nation, ranked number 1 overall. With the lineup they have, it's no surprise.

Having two sons of former NBA superstars, Scottie Pippen and Kenyon Martin. Both of their sons go by their dads name with Scottie Pippen Jr and Kenyon Martin Jr. One player you might not recognize is the star of the team Cassius Stanley. Cassius Stanley is by far the best player on that team with his crazy dunks and amazing athleticism. It's no surprise Sierra Canyon is one of the biggest teams in California. If you were to go to a game you would have to show up about 3 hours early just to get a place to sit!

Jam the Dam

By: James Coats

On Friday, February 8, Beaverton High School hosted their famous collection of basketball games called Jam the Dam. Beaverton men's basketball faced off against Aloha in a close back and forth battle. The stands were absolutely packed. The gym was roaring with cheers and chants. It was a good day to be a Beaverton Beaver.

The game started off strong for Beaverton with them winning the tip off. Right off the bat, an easy 2 point lay up was scored by one of their best players Isaac Rosenthal. Once the Beavers regained possession of the ball, a three pointer was shot and it swooshed in; the crowd went crazy. Aloha was really feeling the pressure now. Beaverton was up by halftime.

During halftime, one of Beaverton's oldest traditions, a group of boys learning a routine from the girl team, Rhythm B’s. The Rhythm Boys had a performance. This performance consists of a bunch of Senior Class Boys doing a dance routine. This is both funny but also very entertaining.

As The Beaverton Beavers came back out on the court, they started with the ball. The whole 2nd half of the game was back and forth, but it wasn't enough for Aloha, Beaverton came out on top winning 78-52.
