Good News
CTE Director Vicki Hamill recognized Amber Dickenson, a Southside High School student, for her achievement in Future Farmers of America. Amber competed in the Supervised Agriculture Experience State Star in Agri-placement competition. She was named 1st place in the state and received a scholarship to fund her trip to the National Convention in October 2023.

New Business
ISL Wendy Dixon and the 6-12 Curriculum Team presented information to the Board regarding a Social Studies Curriculum adoption for grades 6-12. CAO Dr. Norris Parker will meet with Board members to discuss the process of the adoption and answer questions they may have.

Phase II of the HVAC- ESSER Project was approved approved as presented..
The following Capital Projects were approved as presented:
Athletic Field Roof Replacement @ Northeast Elementary School, Coastal Builders Construction, Inc. $14,478.
Track Replacement @ Washington High School, Americourt Sport Surfaces, LLC $449,300- paid by ESSER funds.
An update on the ESSER-GEER Monitoring Review of the use of federal COVID funds by BCS was presented. BCS met all programmatic requirements for the use of federal COVID funds.
Superintendent Report
An update on the NC Accountability Model was presented to the Board. Dr. Cheeseman informed the Board that there will be a public meeting at Southside High School on February 8, 2023 to present information concerning removing the school code from Ed Tech Center.
Information was presented to the Board concerning changes to Policy 3410- Testing and Assessment Program for discussion.
Revisions to Board Policy 3410- Testing and Assessment Program were presented to the Board and approved unanimously as presented.
Revisions to Board Policy 3515- Religion in the Schools were presented to the Board and approved unanimously as presented.
Revisions to Board Policy 7241- Drug Testing of Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators were presented for review on the first reading.
