Curriculum and Instruction Management Coordinator, Lisa Spencer, recognized Erin Massie for receiving a $3,000 grant from Ag Carolina.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the February 7th and February 21st meetings were approved as presented.
Reports and Updates
CAO Dr. Norris Parker presented additonal information to the Board regarding the Social Studies Curriculum adoption. Discussion and questions were answered. Access to the curriculum website was also given to review. Dan Buice from SAVVAS joined the second meeting in February to answer questions and concerns regarding the SAVVAS social studies curriculum presented.
2023-2024 Beaufort County Schools and Early College High School Calendars were presented to the Board and were both approved as presented.
The following Capital Projects were approved as presented:
Concrete Project @ Chocowinity Primary School, Eastern Elementary School, Washington High School, SW Snowden School, and the BCS Transportation Dept., Coastal Builders Construction, Inc. $42,300.
The Washington High School Auditorium Upgrade Project bid was approved by the Board as presented; Eastern Theatrical $109,254.71.
William Cayton & Adam O'Neal presented information to the Board regarding the social studies curriculum.
The Board approved a request to purchase Reading Horizons Curriculum for K-8 schools and one high school, cost $112,518.
The 2022-2023 Summer Programs to the Board and was approved as presented.
A Budget Amendment dated February 1, 2023 was approved as presented.
Superintendent Report
The 2023-2024 Budget Preparation Timeline was presented to the Board for review.
Superintendent Dr. Matthew Cheeseman and Assistant Superintendent Mark Doane presented a state-funded certified employee supplement allotted for the 2022-2023 school year to the Board. Payments will be made in June 2023 in the amount of $2,030.80.
Dr. Cheeseman shared the Resolution Supporting Local Control of School Calendars that was adopted in January of 2019.
Revisons to Board Policy 7241- Drug and Alcohol Testing of Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators was presented for approval on the second reading.
