Mr. Will Tyson, a computer science teacher at Washington High, was recognized tonight for his NC State Kenan Fellows Program 22-23 for Teacher leadership acceptance. He begins the Fellowship program next month

Approval of Minutes
The minutes of April 5th and April 25th meetings were approved as presented.
Reports and Updates
Bath Elementary Gym Project
Gym and lobby roof need repair/ replacing
HVAC needs to be replaced- over 20+ years old
Cost proposed by Wolf Trail Engineering: $557,000
Project AWARE gave an update on program details and progress with the program.
School Bond Information and Lottery Proceeds were presented.
Capital projects approved at Washington High and Northside High for HVAC repair and track/ football field damage.
Washington High School Soccer Lighting
The Board approved to use local funding for the lighting project.
The deadline to use the grant is fast approaching.
Digital signage for 5 schools in the North and South was approved to move forward. We are moving in phases for the signs based on electrical needs and supply issues. The first phase will include Northside High, Northeast Elementary, SW Snowden Elementary, Southside High, and Chocowinity Primary.
Fiscal year 2023 local expense budget was presented for review and discussion.
New substitute system update was presented that will begin in Fiscal year 22-23.
An addendum to the Speech Therapy East, Inc. contract not to exceed $130.000 was presented and approved.
Dixon Hughes Goodman, LLP was voted on and approved to audit fiscal year ending June 30, 2022. Cost is $44,500 + applicable fees.
School Nutrition received approval for the following kitchen items: Combi Oven, Tilt Skillet & Food Processor in the amount of $82, 642.

Superintendent Dr. Matthew Cheeseman presented information to the Board concerning Senate Bill 654 requiring that each Board of Education vote monthly on mask mandates. By majority vote, the Board approved to continue making masks optional in the schools.
The NCSBA Spring Policy Updates were presented for first review.
