CTE Director Vicki Hamill recognized Lisa Spencer for being named Northeast Region Curriculum and Instructional Management Coordinator of the year.
PIO Kristen Riddle presented an update on the successful Stuff the Bus Event raising school supplies for our families and schools in need. An estimated $20,000 in school supplies was raised on August 20th at Walmart in the Washington parking lot.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the August 9th and August 23rd meetings were approved as presented.
Reports and Updates
Revisions to Policy 4400- Attendance, was presented by Project Aware Director for review on the first reading.
An update was given from Finance about the Annual Audit.
The Curriculum Department, and teachers Melanie Alligood and Lisa Silva presented a follow-up to the Beaufort County Literacy Plan.
Dr. Cheeseman, Washington High School head football coach Perry Owens, and Northside High School Athletic Director Jared Adams request to purchase new team football helmets was approved as presented.
The logistics:
WHS- 90 helmets: $43,869.45
NSH- 65 helmets: $30,660.47
Beaufort County Schools Title I plan for 22-23 was approved as presented.
A Beginning Teacher Support Program for 22-23 was approved as presented.
Revisions to Policy 6524- Network Security were presented for approval, second reading. They were approved as presented.
Revisions to Policy 3620- Extracurricular Activities and Student Organizations were presented for approval for technical corrections. In 2018, the Board approved for all 6th-grade students to be eligible to participate in athletics with the exception of football. This item needs to be included in the policy. The Board approved the revisions as presented.
Maintenance Director Jamie Stokes presented an update on the 21-22 Capital Outlay Budget and outlined current projects with completion dates.
The following Capital Projects were approved as presented:
Northside High School- Concession stand roof. Coastal Builders, Cost $10,489
Northside High School- Press Box Renovations. Rodney Braddy Construction, Cost $17,700
EC Director Kim Gibbs presented a contract for $175,000 for OT Plus, Inc. Occupational Services for 22-23 which was unanimously approved.
A grant opportunity through the NC Dept. of Health and Human Services and Maxim was presented for BCS to employ 2 nurses through Maxim for the 22-23 school year. They would work in the schools related to K-12 testing programs, COVID response activities, and school health program activities. The Board unanimously approved.
A request to purchase an elementary curriculum for $284,814.75 from i-Ready and Lexia Core 5 for the upcoming school year was approved as presented.
The Board approved a request to sell surplus which includes technology devices, school nutrition equipment, and out of date furniture.
Superintendent Report
Dr. Cheeseman presented information concerning a Global Leaders Program to be utilized at S.W. Snowden Elementary
The Board approved a request from Dr. Cheeseman to apply for a grant using ESSER funds to contract with a 3rd party to provide technology- enabled human support to identify and locate missing students.
Dr. Cheeseman presented a request to refurnish the Media center from School Specialty at Southside High School. The total price $109,101.89. The Board approved as presented.
