Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the April 4th, 20th, and 25th were approved as presented.
New Business
Board Charman TW Allen presented information to the Board regarding calls he received about Rep. Keith Kidwell saying "The local board of Education of Beaufort County Schools is authorized to use the Hillsdale College K-12 Curriculum in lieu of the requirements of Part I of Article 8 of Chapter 115C of the General Statutes" in House Bill 464 without full board authority. After discussion, the Board voted that no member should send any issue to any legislator without the full Board having knowledge of it.
Board Policy 2100- Board Member Legal Status and Board Policy 2122- Role of Board Members in the Community were discussed by the Board Chairman TW Allen.
The Board of Education and the Beaufort County Commissioners met in a joint meeting to discuss the following:

Reports and Updates
The 2023- 2024 Budget update was presented to the Board for discussion and review.
A request to sell 3 activity buses on Gov Deals was unanimously approved by the Board as presented.
The audit contract from Forvis, LLP was presented for the Fiscal Year ending in June 30, 2023 for $48,000. The audit will be submitted to the Local Government Commission on October 31, 2023.
A request was unanimously approved to purchase 132 Dell computers for office staff at schools & central services staff from Applied Data Technologies for $133,724.
FY 2024 Local Funding Request was presented for review. The Board asked to change the coaching stipend to $250. Tammy Lewis also presented the Audited and Estimated Fund Balance and the 23-24 Local Current Expense Budget Proposal-Expenditures.
CAO Norris Parker and the Curriculum & Instructional Support team presented distict-wide data for the 22-23 school year.
A K-5 math curriculum adoption update was presented by CAO Norris Parker. He shared survey comments from community members & parents and feedback from the Curriculum Council.
The CTE Local Plan for FY 2023- 2024 was unanimously approved by the Board as presented.
The following Capital Projects were approved as presented:
Ceiling Tile Replacement Project @ John Cotten Tayloe Elementary, Custom Carpentry, LLC $19,500.
Field House & Concession Stand Renovation @ Bath Elementary, Custom Carpentry, LLC- $86,300.
Superintendent Report
A needs-based grant application for building a new school facility was presented. An application will be presented in August.
