Good News
Beaufort County Early College High School was honored by Superintendent Matthew Cheeseman for achieving a graduation rate of 98%.
Teachers were recognized that achieved and renewed their National Board Certification.

Approval of Minutes
The minutes of both January 4th and 18th minutes were approved as presented
New Business
Assistant Superintendent Mark Doane presented information to the Board concerning the Strong Schools NC Toolkit. He also shared the latest changes to the Beaufort County Schools Covid quarantine protocols.
Reports and Updates
Washington High School received a state grant award in the amount of $121,000 for use at the soccer complex.
Capital Outlay Update and projects that were completed over Christmas break by the maintenance department:
Power washing of Washington High School and sidewalks was completed
Gym at Washington High School freshly painted
Lines & handicapped parking spots painted at Washington High School
PS Jones Middle School Gym and cafeteria projectors wired
Center entrance tile replaced at Washington High School
Central Services Building 1, HVAC replaced & U-shaped desk from former board room removed
Capital Outlay Projects for approval presented by Maintenance Director Jamie Stokes:
Bath Elementary School Window Project – Low bid was AAA Glass Service, Inc. - $12,700.00.
John Small Elementary School Playground Drainage Project – Low bid was Haselden Landscape & Design, LLC - $3,192.58.
Northside High School Food Lab Project – low bid for cabinets was AG’s Home Solutions - $29,483.10. Vent hood - $1,000.00, Plumbing - $2,500.00, Counter tops - $2,500.00 for a total of $35,483.10.
Chief Finance Officer Tammy Lewis presented information to the Board concerning the bonus pay and increases given by the State for employees, also Esser funding update.
Superintendent Matthew Cheeseman and Chief Academic Officer Andrea Lilley presented information to the Board concerning Curriculum Council Adopting Cycles & a timeline for Social Studies and Math Adoptions.
Testing and Accountability Specialist Vickie Bennett presented the 2021-2022 Summer School Program for approval. It was a unanimous vote approved by the board.
Superintendent Matthew Cheeseman presented information to the Board concerning the upcoming budget planning sessions to the Beaufort County Commissioners.
Chief Robert Quackenbush and Captain Darin Hall presented a mid-year update on Allied Universal Securities and the School Resource Officers. Allied Universal Securities patrols our schools. This is their 6-month update. They staff 100% of BCS. Officers cover games, book fairs, fall festivals, board meetings, etc. If staff are in the school, an SRO is at the school too, even workdays. Officers talk to the administration on a daily basis.
Assistant Superintendent Mark Doane presented the 2022-2023 school calendars for Beaufort County Schools and Beaufort County Early College High School for approval. August 29th will be the start date with June 9th being the last day. By law, school has to begin closest to August 26th and the closest Monday this year is August 29th. The Board approved the request as presented.
Superintendent Report
Information was presented to the Board concerning Senate Bill 654 requiring that each Board of Education vote monthly on mask mandates. By a majority vote, the Board approved to continue making masts optional in the schools.
Revisions to Policy 4400 – Attendance for approval on the first reading was presented. The Board approved waiving the rules of the Board and approving a policy on first reading. The Board approved the revisions to Policy 4400 – Attendance as presented in a unanimous vote.
