Computing at Avondale
National Curriculum
Understand computer networks including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the world wide web; and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration
Larger computer networks include special devices, such as computers, that provide services to the users of the network eg access to printers and files.
Powerful computers that can provide access to a range of services may be referred to as 'servers'. These are often locked away for security and are rarely used in person. Instead they perform tasks for users of the network.
Pupils can understand that some services on a network are provided by other computers or devices. They may identify through the fact that printers are centrally located and shared, rather than being connected to each and every computer, or that they may login to any computer and access their files. (See TT exemplar Video)
WORKING TOWARDS - Pupils know that some computers on a network are not there to be used by people but instead perform tasks for users of the network.
MET - Pupils can identify some of the services provided by computers on a network eg. managing print jobs or serving files.
FURTHER PROGRESSION - Pupils understand that some networks include one or more computers known as servers and that these provide services to network users eg. managing print jobs or serving files.
