To recognise familiar forms of input and output devices and how they are used
To make efficient use of familiar forms of input and output devices
Identify and name a range of input and output devices eg. mouse, keyboard, monitor, touchscreen and printer.
Pupils can identify which provide an input to the computer, naming those that are input devices.
Pupils can identify which provide an output to the computer, naming those as output devices. The illustrated example on Target Tracker shows labelling a photo of their workstation.
WORKING TOWARDS - Pupils can name some basic input and output devices, eg. mouse, keyboard, monitor or printer.
MET - Pupils are able to use the terms input and output device to describe some devices that can be connected to a computer.
FURTHER PROGRESSION - Pupils can name a broad range of input and output devices and can identify for each one what their respective input and output is.
Adapt the physical setup of a computer so it is easy to use. This may include repositioning the mouse or keyboard or turning the speakers on or off before use.
Observe pupils who appear to be comfortable in their use of technology. They will hold the mouse confidently and type with some fluency.
Pupils also should be able to change basic settings for a printer eg. selecting a printer from a list or selecting which page of a document to print.
BELOW - Pupils understand which hand to use with the mouse and can position the mouse accordingly. However they appear awkward using the mouse and often run out of physical space, not realising they can pick it up and reposition it. They can adjust the volume on speakers and print to a single printer.
MET - Pupils make accurate use of the mouse and keyboard and will position them so they are easy to use. They confidently adjust speaker volume and select the correct printer from a list.
FURTHER PROGRESSION - Pupils make efficient use of the mouse and keyboard and are beginning to use 'keyboard shortcuts' (for example to copy and paste) to save time. They are able to change basic printer settings such as page orientation or 'back to back'.
