How long it’ll take: 20 Minutes
What the goal is: Campers will be excited for a week of learning, skill building, and adventure! The instructor will set the tone and expectations for the week and camper's will have total buy-in!
What the objectives are: The instructor will cover a name game/icebreaker, the Respect PONY, and build excitement and set expectations for the week.
What you’ll need: No Materials Required
What you’ll do:
After greeting the campers and their parents and doing a Monday Morning Walk-through, it's time to officially start camp for the week! It should be totally clear when camp has started.
Get the campers in a circle in an appropriate place outside if available. Start by playing a fun name game or icebreaker. Remember, this is CAMP!
Set the tone with a Respect PONY (Property, Others, Nature, and Yourself). Have the kids guess what each letter of the PONY stands for and ask them to explain each letter a little farther (e.g., "We can respect nature by not pulling up the grass").
Build excitement for the week! Tell campers "We're going to have an opportunity to work on all kinds of awesome outdoor skills like: building shelters, camp cooking, hiking, and biking! Does that sound like a pretty fun week? I'm so excited to start our adventure together."
Go around question: what is each camper MOST excited to learn about this week? (Or any other go around question)
**Feel out your group and decide if a Full Value Contract is needed. If needed add this in on Monday wherever it makes sense.
