Chalk art
How long it’ll take:
15+ minutes
What the goal is:
Create geometric abstract chalk art on the ground
What the objectives are:
Encourage creativity and introduce the core value Live Balanced.
What you’ll need:
Chalk
Optional: tape (ideally painter’s tape, not duct or packing tape); if you don’t have tape, just use chalk
Hard ground to chalk on (ideally cement like a sidewalk, not asphalt like the road which is rougher and it’s dangerous to be in the road)
What you’ll do:
Use the tape to create a reasonably-sized shape (e.g. a triangle, square) on the ground. One guideline you can provide is to have campers make a shape just big enough for them to sit in.
Place at least 5 straight, overlapping tape lines inside your shape.
Fill in all the inner shapes with whatever color chalk you want. Encourage creativity! It doesn’t have to look a particular way. If you run out of one color chalk, adapt and use another.
Remove tape.
Pro tip: if campers want to continue creating art pieces, carefully set tape aside when it’s removed so it can be reused.
Make sure to practice LNT and throw away the tape when you’re done.
Brainstorm a name for your art piece.
Do a “museum tour” and share the name of your art pieces, what you like about it, and if you’d change anything.
