Recipes:
Camp Stove Popcorn
Materials: camp stove, pot with lid
Ingredients:
Popcorn kernels (1/4 to 1/2 cup)
cooking oil (canola, vegetable, olive, etc)
salt
Directions:
Add a small amount (1-2 teaspoons) oil to cover bottom of pot.
Add a single layer of popcorn kernels to your pot (1/4-1/2 cup, depending on size of pot). Add a pinch of salt.
Light your stove and adjust to medium heat. Leave the pot on the burner until you hear the first 'pop.
Once the popcorn starts popping, pick the pot up slightly and shake/swirl it gently to keep the kernels moving.
Continue until you can count about 3 seconds between pops, then turn off the flame.
*IMPORTANT: use caution when removing the lid from the pot! The kernels may still be popping. Open it slowly and away from your face (or others).
Add more salt if desired and enjoy!
Variations: add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the pot before popping (with the salt) for kettle corn.
Add cinnamon and sugar after popping for a sweet/spicy treat.
Add paprika, chili powder and garlic salt for a spicy, smoky flavor.
