This Code and Rules governs members of the University community as defined in Section 3(s), namely personnel and students of the University. It prescribes the proper decorum; defines and prohibits inappropriate behavior, sexual harassment, and other forms of sexual misconduct; sets the corresponding sanctions; lays down the procedures for addressing informal reports and formal complaints, and creates a University system to address the issues and institute preventive measures (Section 2).
The UNHCR defines sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) as referring to "any act that is perpetrated against a person’s will and that is based on gender norms of patriarchy and unequal power relations.” SGBV can happen to anyone (women and girls, or men and boys, and also to individuals marginalized for their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression), takes different forms, and may have different impacts on individuals. For a more detailed list of these acts, you may refer to the Primer on Safe Spaces Act.
The Ateneo de Manila does not discriminate based on sex, gender, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression. See the following link for more information on the LS Gender Policy: http://www.ateneo.edu/ls/ls-gender-policy.
The principle in responding to and supporting people with experiences of sexual harassment or gender-based violence is Give your A.L.L. -- Attend to them in a safe space, Listen to their story, and Link them to support.
According to the Code and Rules, anyone at the University has the duty to report incidents of SGBV. Meanwhile, persons in authority are mandated to report such cases. For a more detailed process of performing informal reports, see the flowchart below.
