6th Grade Beginning SPanish

This is for 6th graders who did not take Spanish in elementary school as well as for those students who need more review time to build confidence and master new grammar concepts. We will take time to support language learning and study skills. This class will provide students with the basic Spanish grammar including definite and indefinite articles, gender, pronunciation, the alphabet, common greetings and salutations, noun/adjective agreement, subject pronouns and present tense conjugations. Students will build a vocabulary base that includes: counting, days and months, seasons, weather, school subjects and materials, the family, and foods. Finally, Beginning Spanish will include a cultural component emphasizing the art, customs and food of Hispanic culture.

6th Grade spanish

This class is for 6th grade students with previous Spanish instruction and will build upon the knowledge students have acquired from the elementary Spanish program.  Students will broaden their vocabulary base including extended family, class schedules, classroom activities, foods, telling and asking for time, leisure activities, places, vacation and sports. Grammar structures we use in our speaking, writing, and reading include present tense verb conjugation (regular and irregular verbs), verb phrases, parts of speech agreement, asking and responding to questions, talking about one’s feelings, and phrases using tener. This class emphasizes an oral proficiency component. Students will read a short novel in Spanish, answer comprehension questions from the novel and write a short summary all in Spanish based on their understanding of what they have read. 

7th Grade Beginning SPanish

This course is a continuation of 6th Grade Beginning Spanish. Students who struggled in 6th Grade Spanish may wish to take this course to review concepts and to build confidence and mastery. Students will broaden their vocabulary base including extended family, class schedules, classroom activities, foods, telling and asking for time, leisure activities, places, vacation and sports. 7th Grade Spanish

This class is for students who have taken 6th Grade Spanish the previous year. This class will review prior learning and will continue to progress to more complex grammar within reading, writing, and speaking structures. This will include irregular verb formation, stem-changing verbs, tener expressions, direct and indirect object pronouns, prepositional phrases, verbs like gustar, and present progressive tense. Students will also continue to practice writing, speaking, and reading using correct pronunciation and grammar. Again the students’ vocabulary will continue to expand. This class emphasizes an oral proficiency component. Students will read a short novel in Spanish, answer comprehension questions and write a short summary all in Spanish based on their understanding of what they have read. 

8th Grade Beginning SPanish

This class is for eighth-grade students who have successfully completed Beginning Spanish 7. Students who struggled in 7th grade Spanish may consider this course to refine their grammar skills. This class will review prior learning and will continue to progress to more complex grammar within reading, writing, and speaking structures. This will include irregular verb formation, stem-changing verbs, tener expressions, direct and indirect object pronouns, prepositional phrases, verbs like gustar, and present progressive tense. Students will also continue to practice writing, speaking, and reading using correct pronunciation and grammar. Again the students’ vocabulary will continue to expand. 8th Grade Spanish

This class is for those students that have completed 7th Grade Spanish. Students will review 7th Grade Spanish concepts. They will be introduced to the past tenses (preterite and imperfect) as well as reflexive verbs, indefinite and negative words, double object pronouns. Students will be expected to speak Spanish in complete sentences, answer comprehension questions in Spanish and carry on short conversations using both the present and past tenses in Spanish. Students will also read a novel in Spanish, write a summary of the book in Spanish based on their understanding of what they have read.  This class emphasizes an oral proficiency component. Students who complete this course successfully will be fully prepared to handle the rigor of Spanish II at Ashwaubenon High School.
