8th Grade Family and Consumer Science is a course that will give students the basic knowledge associated with food and nutrition, and techniques used in food preparation while following lab procedures. This course will cover food safety and sanitation techniques, kitchen equipment, lab procedures, food preparation, and baking techniques. Students will also learn culinary terms, kitchen math, measurements and equivalents. If you enjoy cooking and eating food, this is a course for you! There will be a small fee to help cover the cost of ingredients and supplies. 

Students will learn how to operate sewing machines, sew on a button, and become familiar with sewing basics. Students will be taught a variety of hand stitches, names of equipment, and tool uses.  Students will apply their new sewing knowledge to construct creative sewing projects. It’ll be sew much fun!  There will be a small sewing fee to help cover the cost of materials and supplies needed to construct the projects.
