Spanish

6th Grade Beginning SPanish

This is for 6th graders who did not take Spanish in elementary school as well as for those students who need more review time to build confidence and master new grammar concepts. We will take time to support language learning and study skills. This class will provide students with the basic Spanish grammar including definite and indefinite articles, gender, pronunciation, the alphabet, common greetings and salutations, noun/adjective agreement, subject pronouns and present tense conjugations. Students will build a vocabulary base that includes: counting, days and months, seasons, weather, school subjects and materials, the family, and foods. Finally, Beginning Spanish will include a cultural component emphasizing the art, customs and food of Hispanic culture.

6th Grade spanish

This class is for 6th grade students with previous Spanish instruction and will build upon the knowledge students have acquired from the elementary Spanish program.  Students will broaden their vocabulary base including extended family, class schedules, classroom activities, foods, telling and asking for time, leisure activities, places, vacation and sports. Grammar structures we use in our speaking, writing, and reading include present tense verb conjugation (regular and irregular verbs), verb phrases, parts of speech agreement, asking and responding to questions, talking about one’s feelings, and phrases using tener. This class emphasizes an oral proficiency component. Students will read a short novel in Spanish, answer comprehension questions from the novel and write a short summary all in Spanish based on their understanding of what they have read.
