Units Studied
Citizenship Through Comics
Pupils will look at the origins of citizenship, how we define citizenship, our rights and responsibilities as citizens, citizenship within the school and Peterhead community, as well as global citizenship.
Each topic will be focusing on what citizenship means to us whilst linking our learning to comics, superheroes, and fictional characters
There will be opportunities learn outside the classroom and participate in activities linked to our responsibilities as citizens of the school and local community
Peterhead – Past and Present
This course will explore the similarities and differences between Peterhead in the past with what we know today
Pupils will focus on a variety of topics such as: the community, the town, fishing, and the prison
There will also be comparisons between Peterhead and twinned towns abroad. Pupils will look at the similarities and difference over time
Research investigation
Pupils will complete an independent research investigation
The pupils will be given a choice of topic from four “big world issues” linked to either History, Geography, Modern Studies or RMPS
This task will include lessons focussing in independent research
Pupils will present their work in their own words in a format of their choice

Learning, Teaching & Assessment
This course will mainly be a classroom learning experience. A wide range of learning and teaching strategies are used with classes, such as developing critical thinking skills, research, paired and /or group work. Work in class is supported through the use of notes, ICT and other digital media. There will be some opportunities to use the school and local community to support our learning experience through outdoor learning.
Knowledge and skills will be assessed in each unit and will be ongoing throughout the year. This will include project work, classroom activities and assessed work.
Progression Routes
National 3 / 4 Scottish Studies. This can then allow progression further into National 5 History, Geography, Modern Studies or RMPS.
