I selected our textbook because I believe it offers valuable insights not only for your academic studies but also for life. If you opt into this opportunity, what I would like for you to do is to read each chapter and identify the information that resonates most with you or things you want to remember in the future. Then I want you to take the info and create a resource journal.
The reason I like a resource journal, is it allows you to active engage with the material from the book. I want you to identify the information that resonates most with you. My intention is for you to personalize your learning experience by focusing on what feels most important and relevant to your unique needs and interests. These resources will serve as a toolkit that you can refer back to throughout your college career as a reminder on how to navigate challenges and achieve success.
For each chapter (including the study skills section), you will read through the material. While doing so, keep an eye out for quotes, resources, tips, or tricks that you find particularly valuable or noteworthy. Your goal is to compile these into your personalized resource journal. Here's the (hopefully) fun part: you get to choose the platform for your journal! Whether you prefer creating a podcast or video series, crafting a Google Site, designing graphics on Canva, compiling entries in a Google Doc, or utilizing platforms like Padlet, the choice is yours. Embrace your creative freedom and have fun with it! My only request is that once you select your platform, you use it for the semester. Some platforms even allow for the inclusion of video/voice recordings alongside written text, offering you a variety of options that you can change each week within the platform. Here are some of my personal favorite options:
Padlet (here is one I did for a teaching class. I put books, videos, etc. from each week on here!)
Google Site (this website you are on is a Google Site, so you can set it up how you want)!
Since we are doing an ungraded model, there will be no need for extra credit. BUT this over and beyond will be considered and can be referenced when final grades are given as a way to show you cared to go the extra mile this semester! Plus, doing this will just enhance your learning and provide you more tools in your toolbox during your college career!
