Appalachian State University is a Google campus which means we utilize Google Suite as our main platform. Due to this a lot of offices on campus, including myself, use Google calendar as a way to schedule appointments with students. Having an updated Google calendar can help you make sure you are not double booking yourself for appointments. Having an updated Google calendar also make it really easy for individuals, like me, to quickly see when you are available if you request a meeting. People are unable to see the details if your calendar unless you share it, but they can see the blocks of when you are busy versus free. If you are someone trying to adjust to a new schedule or have a hard time remembering to get places on time, Google calendar can also be very help for that. There is an app on the phone you can get and you can set it up to notify you as often as you need to be reminded to get places when you are supposed to be there. Google calendar can replace paper calendars but it also can be used in addition to any form of paper planning you use. Students sometimes are hesitant to do this assignment, but a year or two later come back to me and tell me how helpful it truly is and thank me for making them create one. It is one of my favorite time management tools.
Each of you will create a google calendar. On your calendar you will have the following required events (dates for the reoccurring events must start the week of 08/19 and end the week of 12/4)
Mentor Meeting
If your mentor sent you a Google Calendar invite, please accept it. If they did not, add your mentor meeting to your calendar.
Make sure the dates run 8/28-12/1
Decline any meetings that fall on holiday weeks (see mentoring syllabus)
Class Schedule
Add your weekly class schedule to your calendar. Start it 8/19 and end it 12/3. Reading day is 12/4.
Delete any class periods that fall on holiday weeks (see calendar here)
If you have an online class, please mark the time you will work on that class on your schedule.
Final Exams
Use this calendar to add your final exams to your calendar
Encourage Events
Pick at least one encouraged event that you think would be most helpful and add it to your weekly calendar
Options: Work, Club Meetings, Study Time, Due Dates, Workout Schedule, Self Care
Early Advising
Schedule your early advising appointment (click here) and accept the invite on your calendar.
Once you finish your Google Calendar, please review it in your one on one meeting with your mentor. Double check the rubric and make sure you meet all requirements. After you both agree that it looks good, you can come on ASULearn and comment the word "DONE" and share your google calendar with me to be able to grade. To share your calendar, go to your calendar, and on the left next to your name, there are 3 dots. Click the dots and then click settings and sharing. Scroll down until you see share with specific people or groups and then click add people or group. Type in my email and click see all event details and then click save!
