Extracurricular/Enrichment Opportunities

The middle school also offers auditioned after-school groups for students who wish to participate in more than one musical group. Some of the offerings are Spotlight (show choir), Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Entertainers (the school musical). Additional information regarding these opportunities is available from the school's music department.

The South Windsor Public Schools Music Department believes music education is an integral part of educating the whole child and preparing students to participate in an ever-changing global society. The standards-based music curriculum develops artistically literate citizens who can collaborate, communicate and think critically while working toward their true creative potential. South Windsor’s music curriculum embodies a balanced approach to music education which places equal importance on creating, performing, responding and connecting to music. All grade 6-8 students at Timothy Edwards Middle School take a year-long music elective.

There are two pathways that students can explore. Additional information regarding the individual courses can be found on the grade level pages.

Students will develop the skills to make informative personal preferences when  responding to music. Through development of musical independence, students will have the tools necessary to communicate their ideas when performing or creating music. These tools and skills will enable students to comprehend the relevance of having music in their daily lives by understanding why music has played a vital role in the evolution of all mankind.
