Purpose: The purpose of the arcade project is to connect the digital world with the real world through programming and woodworking.
I created a monster racer game on MakeCode Arcade, to practice block coding. here is the screenshot proof.
I measured the side lengths of the arcade machine, and made a cut map to make sure we had enough plywood to make our own.
I finished the hardest skillmap to hone in my coding skills, and make sure I'm ready to start making my own game.
I played three tutorials, Chase the pizza, Lemon leak, and barrel dodger. I combined the first two into my own game where you have to dodge strawberries and eat pizza.
I filled out a Quick Feedback Form to improve my game and get helpful feedback from my peers.
I'm helping to construct our arcade machine by screwing the boards together and securing them. not actually doing that in this picture, but I did.
I filled out a Drafting Sheet to plan out my final game, plus i got to draw cute popcorn, so bonus!
I made good progress on my final game, but never got to finish it because I was sick. I did get really close, and am proud of what I did get. I changed my idea to a tower defense game, and managed to program a second player too.
Describe the final results: I think I did really well, even If I didn't get a chance to finish because of a stomach bug. the coding was really fun, and I think my movie theater-food tower defense was pretty original.
What do you know now that you didn't know when you started this project?: I know that coding takes real practice, and that even the simplest of games require a lot of intricate coding.
What advice would you give to future students about this project?: Pay attention to what the tutorials and tips are telling you, they can be really helpful. I ignored them at first, got really confused, but I went back and looked at them again, and felt a lot more confident.
What else would you like to try that you didn't have time for?: Definitely finishing my game, I would have really wanted to see how the final product turned out.
What proof do you have that shows you learned the project’s purpose?: I played a good part in the construction of the arcade itself, and even if I didn't finish my own game, I know I helped my friends out with theirs.
