It's time to select a monologue to work on!
If you want to write your own, I will be emailing you some guidelines and some monologue starters in case you need help coming up with an idea.
If you want to work on a monologue that is already written, you can start looking online, and I will be emailing you some specific options, for now here is a good place to start: https://www.dramanotebook.com/monologues-kids-teenagers/
Please email me your choice, or a first draft of your written monologue, by 2PM on Wednesday: athompson@aaca.school

Read Act V (pages 31-39, the end of the play!)
Answer the following questions:
2. Who do you think has the happiest ending in the story? Why?
3. What do you think of the ending of the play?
For our performance assignment this week, record yourself reading Malvolio's monologue at the end of the play (remember, he has been locked up and treated like a crazy person because of a prank played on him, so he is very angry and frustrated):
MALVOLIO
Lady, you have. Pray you, peruse that letter.
You must not now deny it is your hand.
And tell me, in the modesty of honour,
Why you have given me such clear lights of favour,
Bade me come smiling and cross-garter'd to you,
To put on yellow stockings!
And, acting this in an obedient hope,
Why have you suffer'd me to be imprison'd,
Kept in a dark house, visited by the priest,
And made the most notorious geck and gull
That e'er invention play'd on? Tell me why.
Wednesday 4/15:
Hi Shakespeare Class!
I hope you all had a good Easter, and are staying safe and healthy at home.
For this week, read Act IV of Twelfth Night (pages 27-30). Answer the questions bellow, and record a video of yourself reciting one of these lines from Act IV, it's an opportunity to practice using some of Shakespeare's language, make sure you use expression! Choose either:
Olivia yelling at Sir Toby:
OLIVIA
Will it be ever thus? Ungracious wretch,
Fit for the mountains and the barbarous caves,
Where manners ne'er were preach'd! out of my sight!
Rudesby, be gone!
Or Sir Andrew, feeling horribly wounded and upset:
SIR ANDREW (Probably on the verge of crying.)
Nay, let him alone: I'll go another way to work with him;
I'll have an action of battery against
him, if there be any law in Illyria (though I
struck him first), yet it's no matter for that!
QUESTIONS:
1. Why does Olivia marry Sebastian?
2. Why do you think Feste agrees to bring Malvolio a pen and ink?
This assignment is due by next Wednesday, April 22nd. If you can't finish the entire assignment that's fine- prioritize doing the reading so you can keep participating with the next activities.

It's time to start reading Twelfth Night! I will be emailing you our shortened version of the play. This week, please read ACT I (that's to page 9). Once you're done, please email me your answer to this question:
Imagine you are an actor playing Viola. What types of emotions do you think she is feeling in act 1 of the play and why? How would you use your voice and body to express this character? What type of costume pieces would be helpful in portraying this character? Extra bonus points if you take a video of yourself reciting one of Viola's lines!
Email me your response by Wednesday at 2PM: athompson@aaca.school
