We discussed how to determine which measures of center and variability you should use based on the data you collect. Students copied down notes and then completed a practice worksheet and reviewed their quiz from yesterday. Then we began working on the study guide.

Quiz today on comparing populations with box plots. Then students continued with the MAD word problem worksheet form class yesterday with a partner.
Tuesday, Oct 1, 2019
Students shared what they learned about M.A.D. yesterday. We completed a practice problem together and talked about what M.A.D. tells us about a sample or population. Students then worked in partners to use measures of center and variability to compare populations.

1. Answer BW on box plot overlap independently (no discussion) and turn in.
2. Copy questions from wiki into notebook. (see pictures at right.)
3. Watch MAD video and answer questions in notebook--HEADPHONES!

Wednesday, Sept 25, 2019
After correcting our HW, students discussed how to determine if two populations are statistically different using box plot overlap. We worked on a set of data comparing college field hockey and basketball heights, creating a double box plot on the same number line and practicing what to look for (overlap in the BOX area).

We discovered that by increasing the sample size, you decrease the variability of the data. Students also began working on their sampling project with their table.
Monday, Sept 16, 2019
Today students took samples larger than 5 to see how it affects the variability of the results.
Friday, Sept 13, 2019
We checked our work from p 334-335 #18-31 from class yesterday. Then students completed a check-in assessment on p 336 #1-4 + #6 on loose leaf to help prepare for the quiz next week
Thursday, Sept 12, 2019
Today we collected a random sample by flipping a paper clip over a random digit table. Students found that by increased the randomness of the sample collected, we decreased the variability and makes the data more representative of the population.
Wednesday, Sept 11, 2019
Today we began an activity on sampling. First classes made guesses on what they thought the mean would be and followed up with collected a sample by choosing five options. We discussed variability and spread with our results. Tomorrow we will look at how choosing a random sample affects the variability.
