Usual class times (9 and 11am)
We will discuss results of yesterday's test and how retakes/final grades will all play out next week.
MONDAY WILL CONTAIN OUR RETAKE OPPORTUNITY
IF NOT RETAKING
Please come to class on Monday with a list of three things you learned in social studies this year, and how you believe they will apply to your life moving forward. Remember, we teach the social sciences because the world is full of complicated problems, and you need to know how to be a good citizen. How you vote, protest, organize, advocate for causes, etc, but also how you relate to your neighbors, communities, your approach to solving big problems, etc, is all so important. Just look at our world right now with everything from the response to COVID, the George Floyd protests, massive unemployment, etc, and imagine how much a good or not so great social studies education can impact how adults are dealing with and interacting with the world. IT MATTERS. Tell me how it matters for you. Be prepared to share in class. You don't have to turn it in/it will not be graded. This is reflection for the sake of reflection.

1/2 class period for project presentations (presenting is optional, but encouraged, especially if you have cool stuff to show off!)
Progressive Era Mini-Unit
There will be a guide for taking notes ("skeleton notes")
The assessment will be all multiple choice (no short answer/writing)
It will be closed note (that's the trade-off)

Demavivas: 9am
Merten: 11am
1.) Take this Google forms survey. Mandatory. Provide honest answers. This will determine how many more days we spend early next week finishing up projects/how many days reserved for presentations before moving on to our final mini-unit.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1aGVLzLq6OsOYGgX4Dd5RgJ8HZashxpzBCeKOF5_LtNc/edit
2.) Continue placing all finished work on Showbie
THINGS TO REMEMBER
***When writing your diaries the things listed as "you must include," can be added as "based on a true story" details if you don't have that info for your family
****Aspects of Life (Requirement #3) is just a description of a family member OR famous person with your family's ethnicity, followed by your first generation immigrant talking about how that person inspires them.
****The ethnic research (Requirement #4) should hopefully take you only a day or two once you reach that point. It should be very straight forward. If you can't find tons of collaborative detail that's fine.

Re-Take Day!
-If you are not re-taking the assessment you should be working on your family immigration project. Keep placing anything you finish in Showbie under Week 1 Family Immigration Project Work
-Email Mr. Dickey questions and/or come onto Zoom to get them answered.
-Check the project instructions first! It probably has your answer!!! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1paaOrjHd64UH0A6JgfoWuW3AwAcEq1g24Laen4f6jQY/edit
-Tomorrow you will fill out a Google Forms poll so I can determine how long into next week our class needs to finish this and move on to presentations and then our last mini-unit on the Progressive Era
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RETAKE PEOPLE
Have a “2?”
If you want to re-take SS.H.1.6-8MdC you would have to retake questions 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 15, 16, 21, 24, 32, 34, 36, 37, 38, and 39. (80% equals a “3,” some questions worth 2pts (denoted on question during test).
If you want to retake SS.H.2.6-8Mdc you will need to retake questions 7, 8, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 21, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 36, 37, and 40. (80% equals a “3”, some questions worth 2pts (denoted on question during test)
If you want to retake SS.CV.5.6-8MdC you will need to retake 2, 9, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 29, 31, 33, 35, 38, and 40. (80% equals a “3,” some questions worth 2pts (denoted on question during test)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have a “3” and need a “4?” (or had a “2” that is now a “3” because you will do awesome on multiple choice retake?)
If you choose to aim for 4's you will need to include two short answer responses (you may choose to re-write the ones you used last time, or choose different questions this time). These are any of the questions from 41-51.
PROJECT STUFF TO REMEMBER.....
-The answer to many a question can be found in the project instructions https://docs.google.com/document/d/1paaOrjHd64UH0A6JgfoWuW3AwAcEq1g24Laen4f6jQY/edit (or by emailing Mr. Dickey the question)
-If you can't find a piece of information for someone on a family tree that is perfectly fine
-If you want/need to do a famous immigrant family in place of your own that is also fine
-Your tree can be in whatever format you want (hand-made, on a computer, etc)
-If you need to add in "based on a true story" format writing when creating your diary entries/aspects of life entries that is fine
-You might not be able to find every piece of information for every entry (i.e. "who they came over with," "hobbies/traditions still practiced," etc). Either leave that info out, or make it up based on your best guess/context clues from their lives.
-There are no hard due dates (I just want to get a sense of how much progress you are making day to day....we have some time set aside for this project and presentations)
-This is supposed to be FUN! You have earned this after that challenging unit assessment.

1.) Check in with Mr. Dickey, let's talk about your progress on your family immigration project
2.) Study up if you plan to be at the test re-take on Thursday (remember, that is for 2's and people with 3's who are trying to boost their T3 grade to an "A." If you received a "3" but have an A from T2 it is not recommended you retake the test, although I'm happy to discuss with you what content and skills you can better learn/develop.
REMEMBER.....

2.) Continue work on family immigration project

-Consider writing some of your diary entries if finished with tree and/or if you need to wait for more time with family to continue working on tree
There is not a hard deadline for any specific part of the project for right now! Take the next several days to work, and we'll see what pace everyone progresses. Do not spend more than the alloted social studies time working. This project should be fun! Do not feel any stress or pressure!
There is a spot on Showbie where you should keep posting your work so I can see how each individual is progressing.

YOU NEED TO BE HERE AT 9AM/11AM. I will give you the Socrative room name and launch the assessment. Cameras must be ON during the entire assessment. If you sent me a cheat sheet and got it approved you may use it. Volume should be muted. If you encounter an issue/question you may send a message via Zoom chat. If you finish you may leave. It will only auto-grade the multiple choice questions. Also remember that I will count up the questions that correspond with each standard and see if you got 80% on each. Your overall score is the only thing that shows up automatically. There is no HW. I will introduce the family immigration project tomorrow.

Irish Immigrant Experience Article due on Showbie 8AM Monday
Make sure you are taking good notes. At this point you should understand the importance of the following laws. Begin thinking about how these (and the remaining laws/related topics we'll cover at the start of next week) connect both to those key concepts from a few weeks ago (multiculturalism, pluraism, the melting pot vs. salad bowl, xenophobia, ethnocentrism, acceptance/toleration, assimilation, etc) and how we see our American identity. Continue doing this as we begin looking more in depth at the experiences of specific groups, starting with the Irish for today's HW, and continuing with additional ethnicities next week.
1.) Naturalization Act of 1790:
Significance: First immigration law, said who become a citizen, established that they only wanted "white" people)
Related Concepts: Legal status vs. citizenship; ethnicity vs. race; how "whiteness" changed over time
2.) Alien and Sedition Acts:
Significance: First deportation law; tried to kick out immigrants for speaking out politically, make it harder for them to become citizens who could vote.
3.) Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882:
Significance: First law banning immigrants from a specific country
Related Topics: California gold rush; Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, railroad work
4.) Immigration Act of 1903:
Significance: First law banning immigrants with a particular political affiliation (anarchism)
Related Topics: Haymarket Square Riot of 1886
5.) Gentlemen's Agreement of 1907
Significance: Japan agrees to stop emigration to America if America does not "officially" ban Japanese immigration
Related Topics: Difference between "emigrate" and "immigrate"
6.) Immigration Act of 1917:
Significance: Literacy tests; tried to keep out certain poorer, less educated, non-English speaking groups without directly banning them
7.) Immigration Act of 1921/1924:
Significance: Sets quotas on how many immigrants from each country can enter. Designed to basically end southern, eastern European and non-white immigration.
Related Topics: First vs. Second Wave Immigrants, Know-Nothing Party, anti-Irish, German, Catholic prejudice/discrimination, xenophobia

Remember that this is the list of things that should be in your notes. I leave it up to you how you want to format your notes, but make sure you have these topics covered. Take good notes. I cannot stress this enough. You will need to know the significance of everything we cover for the end of the unit assessment, as well as the subsequent family immigration project. Remember, this is the list of things that should definitely be addressed in your notes. I am going to "notes audit" a few of you at the end of class to get a sample of how this is going (no consequences, just me seeing what kind of notes we are taking)

Your "Real American Identity" Essays are due Tuesday at 8AM
You can come to Zoom for writing conference time on Monday
If you have a completed rough draft you may want to email it to me (Mr. Dickey) so I can pull it up and discuss it with you during your conference time.
You will all definitely have work to do on Monday. Even if you think you are done, your writing can always be improved.
After Monday's conferences you may submit a final draft on Showbie. Do not do so before then.

WRITING CONFERENCE TIMES (Bring what you have, along with your questions): Please do not come onto Zoom before your scheduled time. If you need to stay longer than 15 minutes that's fine. I want to avoid a log jam all at once, though. You may send emails with questions outside of our social studies hour. The usual rules apply in that I'll get back to you same day for certain if you email before 3:30pm, and try my best if it comes after.
11AM: Abby, Aiden, Brennan R, Christie, Eva, Patrick
11:15AM: Garen, Henry, Jake, Phoebe, Sydney
11:30AM: Kayleigh, Kevin, Lara, Lila, Tyler

***You have the option of writing an essay or recording a speech. Understand that both require an equal amount of effort. You should pick the one you feel more comfortable with. Most people should probably choose to write, simply because they have more experience/comfort with such. The choice, though, is yours. They will both be connected to the same standards, and this project will be assessed and placed in MasteryConnect

Today's assignment is the beginning of your research/prep for your "Real American" essay/speech assignment....(this is due THURSDAY at 8AM)
https://usahello.org/life-in-usa/culture/american-values/
Read through all nine American values from this article. Then select at least THREE of them, and write a MINIMUM of TWO sentences (although more is allowed and even recommended) explaining why you think this is such an important piece of what it means to be an American. Keep in mind how these values create our identity, since we aren’t exactly a nation-state or a true multi-national state. Also keep in mind how these values, and the identities they create, attract immigrants to our country!
https://www.facinghistory.org/resource-library/my-part-story/what-does-it-mean-be-american
Read these personal accounts of what some Americans believe makes people a real American. Then write down one thing you AGREE with and one you DISAGREE with. For each, write at least one complete sentence stating an idea from these excerpts that you agree with, followed by at least 1-2 sentences of your reasoning as to why you agree. Do the same for the one thing you disagree with. In total, this should come to a minimum of 2-4 sentences, but, again, more is allowed and recommended, especially when providing your reasoning.
"What is due on Showbie????"
Place your responses to both of these tasks into one document. Title the document “Real American Assignment,” and submit on Showbie by Thursday at 8am. If you are not finished within 60 minutes of working, please STOP. Email me and explain that you could not finish in 60 minutes and we will work on some extra time accommodations for this assignment. I do not want you to become overworked. You should not spend more than an hour per day on social studies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes on Feedback/Assessments
Know that I will be commenting on all of your American Restaurant projects throughout the week. Most of them will have comments by Thursday, as Wednesday is a big day for UMS teachers to grade, but you will all have your comments and feedback by the end of the week. I have a very similar "1 week rule" as Mrs. Jeffrey did. Think about feedback on assignments such as these three ways
1.) You are receiving these comments and feedback because you deserve them for putting in the work. You deserve to know what you did well and what can be improved. You deserve to have your efforts recognized and feel good about yourselves.
2.) You will also need to take into account feedback as you move forward to assignments (such as this essay/speech assignment) that will be formally assessed.
3.) We should be intrinsically motivated to learn. This trimester provides you an opportunity to take ownership of your learning. It's important that you truly learn what the standards dictate, not just for a grade, but because the knowledge and skills are valuable. You all know your letter grades cannot go down as a result of T3 e-learning, but you're still going to see where you are on the 1-2-3-4 scale on things like the upcoming essay. Take your scores as information telling you where your learning is and use it to improve. Take that information seriously. ALL of us are always learning and can always master more!

DEMAVIVAS Homeroom (9am):
MERTEN Homeroom: 11am
--------------------------------------------
Reminders:
1.) I ask that you have your video and audio on during class meetings unless your parents ask you to have either/or off
2.) There is a password to get into Zoom now. We are not posting it on the Wiki for privacy. It was in an email this weekend. Ask other students or email me if this is still something you cannot find
3.) Assignment submissions should go through Showbie from now on. Do not email me HW unless you have a tech issue with Showbie. If you still cannot find the class code for Showbie email me and I'll resend it.
4.) We are only working on social studies during social studies hour, so however far you get in 60 min is however far you get when working on writing, projects, etc. You'll have goals each day, but long-term due dates are much softer in an e-learning setting. Help this lessen your stress!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AGENDA
1.) Check-in "American Restaurant Project" progress
2.) Talk about video example for "part 4."
3.) Small group brainstorm: American Identity Values
Homework: Finish your American Restaurant" projects before we come back from the long Easter break.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***After break, you will be working on an essay/speech (I'll provide you the option of either writing a mini-essay or recording a formal speech), where you talk about America's identity, how it comes from our shared values, and how immigrants can join and contribute to that identity.****
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do NOT begin writing over Easter break (you should enjoy your break!)
However, if you want to begin to prepare
1.) Begin considering which American values most contribute to American identity....why you choose those values....examples of those values in our multicultural society
2.) You may choose to look ahead at any of these resources, which show examples of American values (although you will be given time to do so after break)
https://usahello.org/resources/american-values/
https://www.facinghistory.org/resource-library/my-part-story/what-does-it-mean-be-american
3.) You may choose to preview the format of the mini-essay found in this Google doc link. Again, do NOT start writing during your break. That is not necessary. Some may just like to begin wrapping their minds around the assignment.

Homework: Your productivity target is to get through the "restaurant history," "ingredients" and one of your four dish descriptions (2 melting pot, 2 salad bowl) for your "American restaurant" project. Remember, you have to fit ALL of the key immigration concepts in at least ONCE throughout the full project. Do NOT submit anything yet (I want to collect it all once your full project is complete). If you do not get done with today's target by 10AM (Demavivas HR) or 12PM (Merten's HR) that's fine, just stop. We don't want you doing more than 60 min of each subject per day!
Continue thinking about American identity: Reflect on our discussion this morning about what kind of nation we are, and what it means to be a real American. Soon you'll have a mini-writing assignment on such, so begin organizing your thoughts. If you need to view the discussion the recording will be posted here today!

***If you are going to come to class meetings (which I would ask that you do, unless you lack access to technology at that time), I would further ask that you keep your video and volume on (unless your parents have asked you to turn it off due to others working in your area at that time). I want to see and hear you, not a silent screen with your name on it!***
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMEMBER.....I'm only collecting HW docs via Showbie from now on. Do NOT send to my email. Even if all else fails, I would rather you copy and paste your HW as a giant comment on Showbie. This helps keep all HW in one location. Thank you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Agenda:
1.) Go to PollEv.com/daviddickey309 for today's polls for discussion (10-20 min) (take good notes....you'll soon have a writing project on how you define what it means to be an American)
2.) Introduce "American Restaurant Project" (see link to Google doc below below) (10 min)
3.) Spend remainder of hour working on steps 1-3 of your project. Do NOT start making the video until tomorrow, when a sample/model video will be posted

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you watch the video answer the following questions, including all reflection/analysis questions. Each reflection/analysis question must be answered with at least THREE full sentences, although you can have more. It MUST be a meaningful, well-thought out answer.
1.) The ________ __________ theory of immigration says that different cultures and
ethnicities mix and blend together.
2.) The _________ __________ theory of immigration says that each culture remains
Separate despite living under one common nation.
3.) When you have many different cultures we call that ___________
4.) When many cultures remain, but all agree to adopt certain core values of the most dominant or original culture of a nation we call that _________
5.) When people are from a particular __________ this means they hold common traditions and cultural practices (that may have come from historically shared geography, politics, etc)
6.) Countries where, at least historically, a majority of the population have people who speak the same language worship the same religion and have a shared culture are called ___________ ________.
7.) Countries where there are multiple languages and religions, and people from different races and ethnicities, and who may even have different groups of people who consider themselves to be of different nationalities are called _________ ____________ __________
8.) When different groups are ___________ it means we agree to not overtly discriminate against them.
9.) When different groups are ___________ it means that in addition to avoiding discrimination, every group is also viewed by all other groups as being of equal value, and there is no predjudice..
10.) When people start to adopt the culture of their new land, either by choice or by force, this is called __________.
11.) When there is __________, it means there is not enough of something people want or need.
12.) When there is __________, it means everyone is treated differently.
13.) Both can lead to _____________, which means having disproportionate loyalty to and preference for a social group to which you belong.
14.) Some major causes of the answers to #11 and #12 in the 21st century will include ____________ ____________, ______________, and _________.
15.) When you view your culture and ethnicity as “normal” and “correct,” and judge others based on how closely they resemble your own, we call this __________
16.) When you are afraid of people from other cultures and ethnicities, often assuming they are less capable, more violent, prone to crime, disease, etc, we call this xenophobia.
17.) When you portray other cultures and ethnicities as inferior to those of your own and frequently scapegoat them for your society’s problems we call this making them the “_______”
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1.) Some people suggest multiculturalism means that we are agreeing that all cultures are of equal value, and that the “worst” parts of some cultures must be accepted as much as the “best” parts of others. Do you agree or disagree with this line of thinking? Provide your reasoning within your answer.
2.) Should every immigrant culture be forced to adopt certain crucial core values of the culture already established in their new land, even if they are encouraged to keep all other aspects of their culture? If so, list at least two American values you believe every new immigrant should have to blend into their existing culture if it does not already exist within it.
3.) Does a nation have any right to demand that new immigrants “subtract” parts of their culture (anti-multiculturalism views from reflection question #1) or “add” certain things to it (pluralist views from reflection question #2). Why or why not?
4.) Is it possible for a multi-national state to sustain itself, or will they all fall apart because of internal disagreements? Provide your reasoning (look up some historical examples, cough, Yugoslavia, cough, cough, Austro-Hungarian Empire if you really want to have an impressive answer).
5.) Is acceptance of all ethnicities realistic, given our tribal nature as human beings, or is tolerance as far as we can hope for? Provide your reasoning.
6.) How do our tendencies towards ethnocentrism and xenophobia make it more difficult for us to overcome problems that impact everyone? What can we do to better overcome our predjudices and fears to combat the things which threaten us all?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT WE WANT IN A COUNTRY GROUP WORK
***Submit ONE doc from the whole group, with all group members names at the top***
STEP 1: In your groups discuss the things you would WANT to have in the country where you live. List them below:
STEP 2: Discuss the things you would NOT WANT in your country. List them below
HINT: Think about many of the “political issues” we’ve talked about (i.e. healthcare, environment, type of government, education, etc, etc). These might help you come up with some ideas. You must have FIVE items in each column in the table below, but your group can add more! (“Etc.”)
STEP 3: For each of the items in the table you created, give a ranking of 1-10 as to how IMPORTANT each issue is to your group. You may need to discuss/negotiate/compromise! Go back to the table and add an “importance score” for each item.
STEP 4: Come up with a list of “NON-NEGOTIABLES.” These are things, which, if present mean you will want to leave your country no matter what (remember how hard it is to move to a new country, so it better be a VERY BAD THING), as well as a list of things which any new country you might consider moving to MUST HAVE. You must have THREE non-negotiables in each column in the table below, but your group can choose to add more! (“Etc.)”
THINGS WE WANT IN OUR COUNTRY
Example freebie from Mr. Dickey: A good economy with lots of jobs! (example importance score: 8 out of 10)
1.)
2.)
3.)
4.)
5.)
Etc.)
THINGS WE DON’T WANT IN OUR COUNTRY
Example freebie from Mr. Dickey: War! (example importance score: 9 out of 10)
1.)
2.)
3.)
4.)
5.)
Etc.)
MY COUNTRY CANNOT HAVE
Example free-be from Mr. Dickey: A constitution that takes away freedom of religion
1.)
2.)
3.)
Etc.)
ANY PLACE I MIGHT MOVE TO MUST HAVE….
Example free-be from Mr. Dickey: Democracy (no king or other dictator for us!)
1.)
2.)
3.)
Etc.)

FICTIONAL IMMIGRANT STORIES PROJECT (Probably will not get to this until Thursday, but we will see tomorrow....)
Now it’s time to put to test your new understanding of push and pull factors. Below you will find a pair of examples from Mr. Dickey, one of which describes a fictional character who was driven (primarily) by a push factor to leave their homeland, the second of which describes another fictional character who was drawn (primarily) by a pull factor to come to a new country. Do keep in mind that for most immigrants there are combinations of push and pull factors in play, and that no one particular factor is the only reason driving them to move (although this can happen...every immigrant’s story is unique!).
After reading each example you will be tasked with creating a pair of your own stories. The following are your instructions/key points:
#1: One of your stories must have a character who is primarily being driven by a push factor, while the other is primarily being driven by a pull factor.
#2: One of them must be a modern-day immigrant, while another must be one from history (this will require some research on your part, but with some helpful hints/lists provided by Mr. Dickey).
#3: You may choose to embody your characters and write in the first person, or simply write about their stories in the third person. It’s entirely up to you.
#4: Each story must be at least 4-6 SENTENCES long
#4: For this project, focus on immigration to America. There are fascinating stories of human migration from one place to another throughout modern world history that are very interesting, but this unit is about immigration in our country!
HISTORICAL IMMIGRANT GROUPS THAT CAME TO AMERICA
-Irish (look at the late 1840’s/early 1850’s for a huge wave)
-Italians (late 19th century...that’s the 1800’s)
-Polish (similar to Italians)
-Cubans (1950’s/1960’s will have some interesting stuff)
-Germans (maybe look up some stuff about a revolution in 1848)
-Mexico (look up something called the Bracero Program…)
MR. DICKEY’S EXAMPLE/MODEL #1: (Historical, Push Factor: Political Persecution)
I don’t remember much from my childhood in Germany….or Austria….but my dad always told me it was really German land. We had to leave when I was just seven years old, which was difficult at the time, saying goodbye to the few friends I had, but even then I knew it was for the best. The people there, they didn’t like my family very much, especially my dad. I remember the snarls on their faces, the things they’d shout at him. Mostly, I just remember that we had to go into hiding, exile my older sisters called it. I guess my dad had some ideas that the government didn’t like too much. They said he and some others had demanded too much for all the “little people,” even though my dad is hardly small. He’s a big guy, a really strong worker who just wanted what was best for us and all the other workers. Coming to America was hard, having to learn a new language, always trying to figure out how to “act normal” and “fit in” with the kids who were born here and seemed to always know just what to do. Still, I think this was way better than what would have happened if we had to keep hiding from the people who were in charge back there. That wouldn’t have been much of a home at all, so now this is my new home, and I’m happy that it will be my family’s home someday.
MR. DICKEY’S EXAMPLE/MODEL #2 (Modern-day, pull factor, educational opportunities)
Maria Gonzalez was born in a country called Honduras. She was proud of where she was born, and loved the people and culture to which she belonged. One of her biggest passions was reading, as she always wanted to know more about how everything in the world worked. When she grew up and had children of her own she wanted them to be able to access the highest quality education so that they would grow up to be as knowledgeable and skilled as any adults could be. Unfortunately, when she looked at the state of the schools where she lived she realized that this dream wasn’t going to come true unless she made a very difficult decision. She knew her brother had come to America years earlier to work as a skilled tradesman and might be able to sponsor her and her family if she decided to join him. She asked him what the schools in America were like, what kind of opportunity her kids might have. After considering what he had to say she decided to leave behind everything she’d built for herself because the draw of the opportunities America might offer her kids was just too great. Today Ms. Gonzalez is the proud mother of two children with college degrees, each of whom have been given so many more opportunities as a result of that education. She has recently applied for citizenship and loves every part of being an American.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Simply participate if present for the live lesson. If you are unable to attend the live lesson, pause the recording when each new poll question shows up and think about how you would have answered. Then hit play and continue watching.
2.) Whole class discussion push/pull factors
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Fill out "Push/Pull Factor "Notes Instructions Guidance" Document (seen below....).
You are responsible for creating and filling out the three charts (7 push factors, 7 pull factors, 3 reasons moving is hard) in a Google doc/word doc/paper.
3.) Begin group work (groups assigned by Mr. Dickey) "What We Want From Our Country" assignment.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: If you are present for the live lesson, simply participate with your group. If you are unable to attend watch the recordings and fill out an individual document.
You are responsible for creating and filling out the charts shown in the second document below. Five things you want, each ranked 1-10 in importance, and five things you don't want, also ranked 1-10 in importance.
Homework: No HW tonight, but be sure to review the recording of today's class, the notes you created, and any group work you began. Tomorrow you will be working with your groups, and after some discussion you will begin working on a creative writing project where you get to take on the experiences of a pair of immigrants being "pushed" or "pulled" to America, both in history and today!
NOTES INSTRUCTIONS/GUIDANCE
As we discuss push and pull factors you must list at least SEVEN push factors and SEVEN pull factors. You may list more if you choose! (“Etc.)”) If we do not list seven together as a class you must come up with more of your own (either from your intuition or research).
As we discuss reasons moving is difficult you must write at least 1-2 COMPLETE SENTENCES explaining THREE such reasons (although you may add more if you want). Again, if we don’t get to three in class (although we should), you will need to come up with more on your own.

(“Etc.)”
