We assess student learning to:
Promote student learning through assessing prior knowledge, building a profile of the student’s understanding, adjusting planning to meet particular needs and to encourage children to be reflective about their own learning and increasingly self-directed/self-evaluating.
Assist in reporting to students, parents and future institutions
Evaluate our school program including both curriculum and methodology.
High School students should expect at least one application task per week and at least one authentic assessment task per unit of instruction per subject. An application task asks students to demonstrate their understanding skills and concepts related to the subject matter. An authentic assessment task involves the development of a real-world product for a real-world audience to address a real-world problem related to the subject matter. Teachers give students notice of assessments so they can plan ahead for review and prepare as needed.
*For students enrolled in the IB Programme, assessment will follow the guidelines and recommendations provided by the IBO. Students are expected to be proactive, communicate expeditiously with their teachers, and meet all deadlines.
The purpose of homework is practice and feedback. Homework is formative, feedback will be provided and it may be assessed using the ATL/POG rubric.
