LATE ASSIGNMENTS/RETAKE/MAKE UP POLICY

→ EXCUSED Late/Unsubmitted Assignments

Students have the same number of days they were absent to make up their work, given that they have an excused absence and that they have not exceeded 15 absences in the class. 

Teachers must receive the excused absence on PowerSchool within 5 calendar days from the students’ absence. 

If the student is unable to meet the new deadline, then deductions will apply, given that he/she has not exceeded the 15-day absences:

• 1 calendar day - 10% off graded assignment 

• 2 calendar days - 20 % off graded assignment 

• 3 calendar days - 30% off graded assignment 

• Absolutely NO assignments may be accepted after the 3 calendar days pass.  

→ UNEXCUSED Late/Unsubmitted Assignments

Deductions will apply, given that they have not exceeded the 15-day absences in the course:

• 1 calendar day - 10% off graded assignment 

• 2 calendar days - 20 % off graded assignment 

• 3 calendar days - 30% off graded assignment 

• Absolutely NO assignments may be accepted after the 3 calendar days pass.  

Retake/Makeup Policy

Retakes

Students must show evidence of learning/work done in order for the teacher to approve their retake. 

Please refer to the course syllabus shared by your teacher for further details.

Retakes are not applicable for semester exams or IB mocks. 

IB Courses

• Only ONE retake per semester will be offered for a summative assessment

  • BELOW 3 in SL courses

  • BELOW 4 in HL courses

Makeups

• If a student has an unexcused absence

  • No makeup will be offered
    
    

• If a student has an excused absence

  • An assessment can only receive a grade in the gradebook if the absence was excused within 5 calendar days. 

  • Students will need to have an excused absence coded in PowerSchool in order to receive credit; however, the purpose of assessment is to provide feedback. 

  • Students must communicate with their teachers that their absence is excused.

  • It is the student’s responsibility to arrange to make up their work.

  • If a student fails to show up for the makeup assessment without communicating and getting approval from their teacher, they will not be offered another. 

  • Special consideration will be given to students who have an extended excused absence due to health-related issues. If there is a medical issue, the school doctor will email the excused absence to staff. 

No make-ups/retakes will be offered if a pattern of absences and missing work is evident and if the student has 15+ absences in a class.

ISS and OSS

If a student is assigned an ISS or OSS, they are required to complete their assignments on time. 

If they have a scheduled summative assessment, they must email their teacher. Failure to communicate with the teacher could result in a loss of credit for that assessment.
