The CAS program asks students to become involved in activities that fall into the different categories of creativity, activity and service learning. High school students who do not pass a year of a non-elective credit-bearing class will be required to enroll in an approved credit recovery program and successfully complete the course(s). The intent of the program is to provide these students with further instruction, more practice, and additional time to learn the required course standards that were missed the first time. Students must earn passing marks in the credit recovery course to receive the necessary credit.
Credit recovery cannot be used to earn credits in classes that the student was not already enrolled in at AISE.
AISE will approve a credit recovery course provider, which is fully accredited by the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association.
Students who need to enroll in an online course will be notified as soon as possible; however, it is often the case that the need for credit recovery is not clear until the end of the academic year.
Credit recovery courses do not affect GPA. If a student does not pass a year-long course, their failing grade remains in their GPA calculation. Credit recovery is only to earn the graduation credit requirement and will not improve the GPA or replace the failing grade on the transcript.
Students that fail more than 2 core classes are not eligible for credit recovery. If a student fails 3 or more core classes they will be retained in the current grade level and must repeat the school year.
