Aylesbury High School Sixth Form

Headteacher Welcome

I am delighted that you are considering choosing Aylesbury High School for this next crucial stage of your education, either as one of our current students or as someone looking to join us for A Levels.

Every year we welcome our existing cohort of Year 11s into the Sixth Form, and they are joined by a fantastic group of students new to AHS. Together they combine to make our Sixth Form the exciting, vibrant and successful place that it is.

We hope this prospectus - and the other information available on our website - helps you to make the well-informed decisions that will contribute to your own successful journey through A Levels and Year 12 and 13.

Sixth Form, for all students, is a time of positive challenge; we will prepare you for all that lies ahead and inspire you to make the most of every opportunity as you start your own journey to an exciting future. For perhaps the first time in your education, you’ll be able to choose the subjects you study, because they interest and excite you, but also for the opportunities they create for you in the future.

Our academic success is long-established and something we are very proud of, and you will be part of our future success too. Our 2022 A Level results were outstanding, they built upon and surpassed our results in the preceding years and were a credit to our Sixth Form students There is good reason why we describe our students as “our greatest ambassadors”.

The Class of 2022 are now making exciting futures for themselves after AHS (destination information) and soon our focus will turn to preparing you, the Class of 2025, for all that follows when you leave school. This means much more than academic preparation of course, but also by offering you the chance to develop your skills, talents and potential in a wide range of leadership, personal development and extra-curricular opportunities.

As the only girls' grammar in North Buckinghamshire, we believe strongly that our school - with its commitment to academic excellence, diversity, opportunity and support for all our students - is distinctive and exceptional in its provision to its students and the local community.. Furthermore, we are also lucky to have Aylesbury Grammar School (AGS), literally across the road. This means our students have an additional peer group on their doorsteps, and we can offer joint social events, joint performances and joint lessons in some subjects.

We very much hope this prospectus allows you to choose the best Sixth Form for your future aspirations; we hope you will make us part of your journey.

We look forward to welcoming you in September.

Head of Sixth Form Welcome

We are very proud of our Sixth Form and are keen for you to join us here at Aylesbury High School for what will be the final - and possibly defining – years of your school education.

Here at AHS you can get the very best education, with A Levels delivered by enthusiastic subject specialists in a supportive and inclusive environment that values the co-curricular every bit as much as the formal qualifications you will earn.

Our commitment to you is that we will work hard to give you the very best opportunities to create your own future, so that you can do the rest. That means skills, experiences, opportunities and the life-long friendships that we hope you will forge here too. It combines to make this a very special place. We know this to be true, because our students tell us so, most clearly and articulately when they leave at the end of Year 13. They are excited about the next stage in their lives, but they are nearly always very sad to be leaving AHS.

We love to welcome new students into AHS, greatly appreciate the varied perspectives and skills they bring to us, and a measure of their successful time at AHS is that they are every bit as sad to leave at the end of Year 13 as those that have been here since Year 7.

This online prospectus will give you a glimpse into life at AHS and all the details and specific information you need to turn first impressions into something more substantive. We hope it is a useful complement to the other resources and face-to-face opportunities that you will have to better inform your decision making.

Our Sixth Form is a happy and successful part of our school and we hope that you will want to join us. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or need more information about what we can offer you.
