Equalities Objectives
AET’s specific and overarching equality objectives are renewed every four years and have been revised and added to and are detailed below.
These highlight now five key areas where inequality for pupils and students can be addressed, the additional objective relates to equality for disadvantaged groups:
To close the attainment gap between boys and girls in English, Mathematics and Science at all key stages.
To close the gap in performance of all pupils with special educational needs or disabilities.
To close the gap in performance between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged groups
To promote cultural development and understanding through a rich range of experiences both in and beyond the curriculum.
To prevent and respond to all hate incidents and prejudice-based bullying.
In addition to these Trust-wide objectives, AET expects each of its academies to develop and publish their own equality statement and objectives, unique to their own environments.
Relevant background information
The public sector equality duty (PSED), is a key measure of the Equality Act 2010. It came into force on April 5th 2011 and requires those carrying out public functions to consider the needs of all individuals.
We aim to meet our obligations under the PSED by having due regard to the need to:
Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
Protected characteristics include: age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race (including ethnic or national origins, colour or nationality), religion or belief (including lack of belief), sex and sexual orientation.
