Description

The Chemistry 10 course is designed for 10th grade students and aims to develop an understanding of the properties, composition, structure and transformations of matter along with energy transfer and chemical reactions.

Topics in the course include: States of Matter, Elements, Compounds, Mixtures, Atomic Structure, Periodic Table, Chemical Formulas, Equations and Calculations, Bonding (ionic, covalent, metallic), Properties of alkali metals and halogens, Acids, Alcalis (Bases), Salts, Titrations, Chemical Tests, Energetics, Rates of Reactions, Reversible reactions and equilibria, Introduction to Organic Chemistry (alkanes, alkenes, alcohols).

The practical aspect of the course focuses on measurements, simple experimental techniques, following the scientific method when designing an investigation, data collection and basic statistical analysis.
