The Academic Advisory-10 course is a continuation of the 9th grade Advisory course. During the Academic/College and Career Exploration Unit, students complete the ACT Career Discover Program, research university options, review course selection options for AP/IB/ACS Authentic programs of study and finalize their 4-year plans. Academic Advisory 10 additionally prepares students for IB applications.
The Wellness Unit on Social/Emotional Health and Well-being encourages students to explore healthy life choices, develop coping skills in response to stress, manage peer pressure and enhance their interpersonal skills. The focus of the Responsible Living unit is on social awareness and ethical and responsible decision making through the exploration and understanding of UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Students answer the question, “How do I impact the world and how does the world impact me?”
This course culminates in a 10th Grade Capstone Project in which students investigate a contemporary issue in the areas of health and social education, the environment, global affairs, technology and innovation and civic responsibility. Through this project, students produce a 1,500 word research paper based on a creative project that is displayed in a school exhibition at the end of the semester.
