IB Diploma Course Students:
This is being designed for students who enjoy describing the real world and solving practical problems using mathematics; those who are interested in harnessing the power of technology alongside exploring mathematical models and enjoy the more practical side of mathematics. The HL course will include many elements of the old HL option topics on statistics and discrete mathematics content. This course is suitable for students wishing to study some forms of Engineering (Chemical, Industrial), Computer Science, Economics, Business, Biology or Psychology at University.
All the topics listed above for SL are also covered at HL; additional topics include logarithms, models, complex numbers, matrix algebra, vectors, trees and graphs, search algorithms, Voronoi diagrams, Spearman’s and Pearson’s correlation coefficients, hypothesis testing, the test, linear and non-linear regression, the method of least squares, Poisson and normal distributions, the central limit theorem, transition matrices, Markov chains, differential equations, coupled differential equations, slope fields and phase portraits, Euler’s method.
A Graphic Display calculator is required. Please check with the school before buying a graphing calculator.
