This course offers high school students the opportunity to explore and appreciate the visual art forms and techniques in art. Students will be introduced to the elements of art and principles of design through exploration and observation of both historical movements and contemporary artworks. Students will have an opportunity to put their learning into practice by completing creative works and participating in online discussion with peers and the instructor. Through completion of the course, students will understand the language of art and feel comfortable discussing, interpreting and creating visual art.

Ms. Evi Sotiropoulos was born and raised in Athens, Greece and moved to the United States seven years ago for her studies. She is an ACS Athens Alumni of 2011, attending the school from junior kindergarten to 12th grade. She received her B.F.A. in Illustration from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
After graduating, Ms. Sotiropoulos worked as an art teacher at a Greek-American bilingual school in Arlington, Massachusetts and discovered her passion to teach art. She then decided to continue her studies and received her M.A. in Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. She earned her teaching license in Massachusetts and is certified to teach Visual Arts K-12.
Ms. Sotiropoulos' ultimate priority as an educator is to create a student-centered classroom, where her students feel comfortable to design and express themselves freely.
