A Day (Pd. 3 & 5)
Monday:
Industrial Revolution Hyperdoc: students will work through the industrial revolution hyperdoc, examining topics such as the assembly line, the cottage system, and how industrial inventions contributed to the rise of industry.
Egypt’s Industrial Revolution: Students will watch a short video detailing the fall of French rule in Egypt, and the consequential industrial revolution that occurred as a result of leadership by Muhammad Ali and Egyptian nationalists. Students will evaluate the extent to which nationalist efforts were successful in Egypt, and whether or not it helped or hindered industrialism.

Urbanization Map 1750-1871: students will engage in a mapping activity to map urbanization efforts from the year 1750 to 1871 by comparing map and city population data from those years. On their worksheet, students will note major cities and their populations in 1750 as a class. Then, students will look at the map of 1871 and note any major changes on their map from 1750. Finally, students will shade in any major changes and cities with a population over 1 million on their blank map of 1871.

Hershey Kisses Simulation: students will simulate the economic systems of socialism and capitalism by a simulation of Hershey kisses (or similar candy/props). Students will follow teacher prompts in the direction sheet attached to complete the activity. They will fill out the reflection questions after each round to report their recollections/findings.
Rise of the Proletariat Reading: Students will complete a 3CR Worksheet on the Rise of the Proletariat. After reading, we will discuss together as a class how the issues of the Proletariat transformed into a range of social issues that were represented throughout the working classes. This will morph into a project (advertisement skit) with students sorted into one of six groups.
