Monday:
Slave Trade Video Questions: as a class, students will watch two videos detailing the experience of the individuals taken from their homeland on the African continent and sold into enslavement by Europeans. Students will be able to identify the causes of the expansion of African enslavement, as well as the impact that the slave trade had on the African Continent
Slave Trade Reading: students may start this activity in class; they should finish it for homework if not finished during the period

Results of Exploration Notes: Students will take notes on the 3 major results of exploration, concentrating on globalization, commercial revolution, and the emergence of major empires leading into the age of absolutism.
Adam Smith & The Rise of Capitalism: students will explore the rise of capitalism as a product of a market economy created in the wake of the Age of Exploration. They will explore Smith’s economic concepts, and do a primary source analysis on the Wealth of Nations.

What is Absolutism Reading & Q’s: Students will be able to define the term absolutism, as well as explain the major contributing factors into the centralization of power in the hands of European monarchs
Europe in Crisis Notes: Students will take guided notes as to the state of Europe during the 1500’s-1600’s as a result of centralized power, and the renewed Catholic zeal of its monarchs.
Homework: Answer Case Study Questions in Packet- Phillip II of Spain - read excerpt and answer questions

Mercantilism Worksheet: Students will be able to identify the term mercantilism, as well as to describe the global impact that this economic theory had on Europe as well as nations colonized by European explorers.
