This term, we’re diving into a really exciting topic: science is everywhere! We’ll explore how science touches almost every part of our daily lives, from the food we eat to the devices we use, and even the weather outside. It’s all about making those everyday things feel a little more magical when we understand the science behind them. We’ll have fun with experiments, watch cool demonstrations, and talk about real-world problems that science helps solve—like how we take care of our planet or how we stay healthy. This year is going to be all about curiosity, hands-on learning, and seeing how science shows up in places we never expected! I’m looking forward to a great year together!
Our learning will extend beyond literacy into hands-on investigation. In science, pupils will explore which materials might make the strongest castle wall, investigate the best angle for firing a catapult, and test which materials provide the best insulation for a dragon’s egg. In PE, pupils will develop their creativity and movement skills by learning key creative dance vocabulary and techniques, working together to choreograph and perform a dramatic battle scene.
This topic combines creativity, curiosity and critical thinking to create a rich and memorable learning experience.
Carnivals
Get ready for a colourful and exciting topic all about Carnivals! This term, we will be exploring the vibrant country of Mexico, discovering the amazing carnivals it celebrates and learning all about its rich culture, delicious foods, and famous landmarks.
Through this theme, we will deepen our understanding of music, dance and art, taking inspiration from Mexican traditions. We will also be developing our creativity by working together to create a video to advertise our upcoming school carnival.
As part of our learning across the curriculum, we will write letters describing our experiences of Mexico, using our imagination and new knowledge to bring our writing to life. We will also apply our maths and technology skills when designing and making instruments and carnival floats, and use our art skills to create colourful masks inspired by Mexican celebrations. It’s going to be a fun and engaging journey full of colour, creativity and celebration!
