Through our topic ‘Our Community, Our Story’, pupils explore the people, places and experiences that help to shape their community and its identity. They develop their understanding of what makes a community special and consider how communities can change over time.

The topic provides opportunities for pupils to think about their own experiences and sense of belonging, while developing an appreciation of the experiences and perspectives of others. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, make connections and share their ideas as they build their understanding of the world around them.

Throughout their learning, pupils develop a range of skills across the curriculum, including communication, enquiry, creativity and collaboration. The topic encourages pupils to value their community, understand their place within it and recognise the contribution that individuals can make to the story of their local area.
