This summer term, Explorer 3 learners will embark on a vibrant journey into the heart of the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, a celebration deeply rooted in the Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience (AOLE). Through the lenses of music, movement, and visual storytelling, children will explore the profound history of "The Greatest Show on Earth," tracing its origins from a site of colonial resistance to a triumphant symbol of freedom and identity.
Learners will investigate how calypso and steelpan music provided a voice for the marginalised, and how the intricate artistry of Mas (masquerade) serves as a powerful medium for self-expression. By experimenting with rhythmic dance and costume design, pupils will discover how creativity can challenge boundaries and celebrate heritage. The term will culminate in our very own village carnival, where the children will apply their skills to create an immersive spectacle of joy, showcasing their understanding of liberation and cultural pride inspired by the spirit of the Caribbean.
