Hello Everyone
Welcome back after the Summer break. I do hope that everyone had a good time.
Our Autumn term our topic is called Science is Everywhere
I will keep you informed of events throughout the year (including Homework tasks) via Schoop, Email and SeeSaw. Please remember to send me an email should any of our contact details have changed. I am pleased to see some of you are already engaging with your childrens pictures on SeeSaw. I know they are pleased to see it when you have liked posts that involve them.
PE
Our allocated PE days for this term are Tuesday and Thursday. Please can the children come to school wearing PE kits and trainers on those days. White t-shirt and shorts or leggings - no football kits please. No jewellery is permitted in school other than a watch and stud earrings. It would also be extremely helpful if all jumpers and hoodies were clearly labelled with your child’s name to avoid confusion.
Homework
Homework will be given out on a Friday in a variety of ways; email, Google Classroom, Sumdog or SeeSaw and is to be completed by the following Wednesday. The children can complete the tasks in their homework book or they can upload a photograph of any completed tasks onto their Seesaw page using their Hwb email and password (if your child cannot remember this please email me so I can send you the information).
Reading
Reading is vitally important to the development of a child as it has a huge impact on all subject areas. This year, in Key Stage Two, your child will be allocated a reading day. Your child’s reading day is glued to the front of their reading record. Your child needs to bring in their reading book and reading record on their allocated day to allow for exchange and for me to check on progress.
Please do not send reading books and records in bags larger than A4 in size as storing these is very difficult to do.
In the Reading Record books we ask parents to write a brief comment upon your child’s ability to read the book. Please also note words that they are having difficulty with and record the page number they have read to. This will help greatly.
We strongly advise parents to allocate 10 minutes each night for reading. Please talk to your child about their books, encouraging them to express opinions on events in the story, to explain unusual vocabulary and to make predictions about future events, giving reasons. e.g. Why do you think this happened….. How do we know……, Why do you think he …….etc. I have included a list of games and activities at the back of your child’s reading record that you can use to stimulate such conversations and deeper learning. We shall also be practising and developing reading skills further in class through dedicated weekly Group reading sessions and comprehension exercises.
