Well done for a successful first 'upper stages' outdoor learning session this lovely Wednesday morning! Super effort, enthusiasm and motivation!
CYPIC writing fun! In primary 4/5, we use different stimulus to support our recount writing. So far we have used a photo promt, a comic strip promt and a short video promt. This week, we went on a nature walk considering our senses as our writing stimuls! We had so much fun, creating fantastic adjectives and verbs to go along with what we were doing outside! We then wrote a recount considering appropraite openers! Well done team!

How fabulous do our rockets look, soaring in the stars! Maths Week Scotland explored the importants of maths within Science, we learned about this and we built our own rockets!

Monday - Stretch with special friends, vowels and consonants
Say each spelling word aloud.
Stretch the word into sounds and count how many sounds you can hear.
Can you spot any "Special Friends" (letters that work together to make one sound)?
Circle or highlight the vowels (a, e, i, o, u)- sometimes a y
Tuesday - Syllables and rhymes
Say each spelling word aloud
Clap the syllables and count how many beats are in each word (remember, syllables must have vowels in them)
Can you rhyme with each spelling word? Rhyme is from the last vowel onwards. Rhymes don’t always follow the same phonic pattern. E.g. eight and plate.
Wednesday - Parts of speech and cues
Say a sentence for each word verbally (include excellent adjectives, verbs and connectives where you can)
Write your best sentence down
Thursday - Roots and shoots
If the word is a word made up of different components, look for the root word and any suffix or prefix. If it is a compound word then break it into the individual words. If the word is neither, see if you can add a prefix or suffix. Talk about any rules that you see in these words.

This week we are introducing key spelling concepts through our Wraparound Spelling lessons. Please spend 5-10 minutes each evening reinforcing the learning from class.
Monday - Sounds Detective
Say each spelling word aloud.

Wraparound Spelling
This term, we will be introducing Wraparound Spelling in class. This approach helps children develop their spelling skills through a range of active, engaging and meaningful activities. Pupils will learn weekly spelling patterns and strategies, practise these in a variety of ways, and apply their learning across reading and writing tasks. We encourage children to revisit their spelling words at home to help build confidence and support their progress.
What is a Phoneme Chart?
A phoneme chart is a chart that shows all the sounds we use when we speak.
It helps us:

We are using our knowledge about polygons (2d shapes) to help us recognise our 3d shapes! We enjoyed building our 3d shapes understanding nets and how they form our shapes!

Our fabulous ZOOTROPOLIS class charter is complete!
Zootropolis is made up of many areas, many different animals with many different talents. All the animals come together to make Zootropolis an amazing place! - This is our metaphor, we are all unique, but we all belong!!
We merged our learning by creating buildings for our zootropolis districts, using nets to creat 3d shapes!
In primary 4/5, we greet each other at the beginning of the day, after break, and after lunch.
At our emotions table, we can discuss our feelings with our teacher or PSA, and know that if we just need time and space we can utilise the resources and spaces within our classroom until we are ready to talk or feel ready to learn again.
This is our busy bee board! We look here throughout the day to keep us right!

Exploring shape! We had several stations to work round including: tessellation art, building 3d shapes with nets and creating 2d polygon characters!
Our first day in primary 4/5! We have loved playing together, exploring all the fun things to do in our classroom!

Each week the children will be given new spelling sounds/ rules to learn and engage with.
The children will complete a short read (a stand alone read - could be relating to the news, an article/ newspaper etc) on a Monday each week, and read their story books in their reading groups twice a week on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
Within CYPIC writing this term, the children will focus on openers. This includes exploring exciting and engaging ways to start sentences.
On a Thursday with Mrs McGregor, the children will focus on genre writing, specifically recount writing this term.

This term the children will explore shape and patterns and relationship of numbers within our numeracy lessons.
Within our big maths (mental maths), the children will follow the CLIC targets for primary 4 and primary 5 accordingly and complete the test each Friday.

This term we are focusing on learning about our mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing.
PE with Mrs McGregor is on a Wednesday afternoon.

Science
This term in Science, we will be exploring Water and Space through a range of fun, hands-on investigations. The children will learn about how water changes state by observing melting, freezing and evaporation, making predictions and carrying out simple experiments linked to everyday experiences. We will also investigate the Sun, Earth and Moon, learning about Sun safety, observing how the Sun appears to move across the sky and exploring how the Moon changes shape over time. Through discussion, observation and practical activities, children will develop their scientific enquiry skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

To start our term our focus is 'Caring Citizens'- building positive relationships with our peers and creating our class charter setting expectations for our year.
