This term, children will be developing their literacy skills through a range of engaging activities both at school and at home.

Spelling Each week, children will be introduced to a new spelling sound. They will learn and practise a variety of strategies in class to help them recognise, read and spell words containing this sound. We encourage children to spend a little time practising these sounds at home throughout the week.

Reading Children will receive a new reading book to take home on Mondays and Wednesdays. These books will also be used in class to support reading development. Alongside their reading, children will complete a range of activities and questions to help develop their understanding of the text and build comprehension skills.

Writing

• Primary 3 will be following the CYPIC Writing Scheme, with a particular focus on using a variety of sentence openers to make their writing more interesting and engaging.

• Primary 2 will continue to enjoy Drawing Club, developing creativity, vocabulary and storytelling skills. As the year progresses, children will begin transitioning into the CYPIC Writing Scheme to support their next steps in writing.

Listening and Talking Throughout the term, children will also be developing their listening and talking skills through class discussions, partner activities, presentations and collaborative learning experiences. These activities help build confidence, communication skills and respectful participation in group settings.

Thank you for your continued support with home learning. Regular reading and spelling practice at home make a significant difference to children's progress and confidence.

This term, we will be developing our numeracy and mathematics skills through a variety of engaging and practical learning experiences.

Children will take part in daily CLIC lessons (Counting, Learn Its, It's Nothing New and Calculation) to help build confidence and fluency in key numeracy skills. Weekly CLIC targets will be posted on the blog, so please keep an eye out for these and encourage your child to practise them at home.

Our number processes learning will focus on:

• Primary 2: Developing confidence with addition within 20, using a range of mental and written strategies.

• Primary 3: Exploring addition within 100 and introducing multiplication, helping children develop their understanding of number relationships and calculation strategies.

Both Primary 2 and Primary 3 will be learning about:

• 2D shapes and their properties

• 3D objects and how to identify them in everyday life

• Tiling shapes and exploring how shapes can fit together without leaving gaps or overlapping

We will also be developing our understanding of patterns and relationships.

• Primary 2 will focus on creating and continuing repeating patterns using shapes, colours and a variety of classroom resources. They will also begin to identify simple number patterns.

• Primary 3 will explore number patterns in greater depth, continuing patterns and explaining the rules that help patterns grow and change.

Throughout all of our learning, children will be encouraged to explain their thinking, use mathematical language and apply their skills in practical and real-life contexts. We look forward to sharing their progress and achievements with you throughout the term.

This term, our Health and Wellbeing learning will focus on helping children develop positive relationships, understand and manage their emotions, and build confidence through physical activity and play. Through daily wellbeing check-ins, teamwork activities, PE, outdoor learning and explicit teaching of regulation strategies, children will learn to recognise a range of emotions, understand how feelings can affect behaviour and relationships, and identify strategies that help them feel calm, safe and ready to learn. Our learning is linked to the GMWP framework, SHANARRI wellbeing indicators and the UNCRC, supporting every child to feel safe, included, respected and successful within our school community.

Our RADS will be on a Thursday morning with Fran and our P.E slot will be a Wednesday with Mrs McGregor.

This term in Science, we will be exploring Water and Space through a range of fun, hands-on investigations. The children will learn about how water changes state by observing melting, freezing and evaporation, making predictions and carrying out simple experiments linked to everyday experiences. We will also investigate the Sun, Earth and Moon, learning about Sun safety, observing how the Sun appears to move across the sky and exploring how the Moon changes shape over time. Through discussion, observation and practical activities, children will develop their scientific enquiry skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

For our Caring Citizen topic, our learning will focus on being responsible, respectful and active members of our school community. Through discussions, collaborative activities and real-life experiences, the children will explore rights and responsibilities, positive relationships, fairness, inclusion and respect for others. They will have opportunities to share their views, take part in decision-making and contribute to positive changes within the classroom and wider school community. 

This term, as part of our Around the World topic, we will be travelling virtually to Australia! The children will learn about Australia's location, famous landmarks, animals and culture through a variety of engaging activities. We will compare life in Australia with life in Scotland, explore unique Australian wildlife, and develop our understanding of different places and communities around the world. Through research, creative tasks and discussions, children will build their curiosity and appreciation of the wider world.
