This week we enjoyed our assembly, NED's Resiliency Ride. Students learned that being resilient means bouncing back when they make a mistake or do something wrong. They learned to Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best! The yo-yo sale continues Monday and Tuesday! See the flyer below.

Pencil top erasers - Just basic ones like these You can often find them at the dollar store.
Only 2 weeks left!
Walkathon is on Friday, October 3 at the TKHS stadium. Parents are welcome to join us to walk with their child. 4th graders will walk from 2:30-3:00pm and then they may be signed out from the track to leave with their parents.
Walkathon donations are due October 2. Please return the envelope even if donations were collected online. There is a spot on the back to track donations so PTO knows which prizes to award your child.
Please see the attached flyer for information about an assembly that is coming to our school on Wednesdya, September 17th. Your child will have the option to purchase a yo-yo after the assembly. A hard copy of the flyer went home with your child on Friday as well.
Chapter 1 math tests were sent home with students on Friday.
Click here to see what we're learning in Chapter 2: Addition & Subtraction, along with ways you can support your child at home.
We finished our first 2-week cycle of language arts instruction. Here are the skills we worked on:
Essential Question: How do people respond to natural disasters?
Reading Strategy: Reread
Reading Skills: Compare & Contrast Text Structure, Author's Perspective
Vocabulary Skill: Multiple Meaning Words
We took the test for these skills as a whole class so students could learn strategies for taking tests online. We will continue testing together for the rest of Unit 1. Students will begin taking tests independently during Unit 2.
We learned about weathering this week by using sugar cubes to model what happens when rocks slide down a mountain. We also made a model of a canyon by reading clues about the types of fossils found in each layer. Students needed to match fossil cards to their corresponding layer. We learned how scientists can date fossils using the layers of the Earth, with older fossils found in the bottom layers. Check out pictures form science this week!
