Steps to lay a digitizer on an iPad 2 trough iPad 4.
Step 1: Prep the backplate with primer and the adhesive strips, insert and secure digitizer cable, and LCD.
Adhesive layout -- Click Here.
Step 2: Clean LCD as thoroughly as possible, the cleaner the better, which makes it easier to lay the digitizer. Make sure LCD screws are in place as well.
Step 3: Remove the top coverings of the adhesive strips. This might make some dust particles land on the LCD, make sure to blow them off with canned air or wipe them off before proceeding.
Step 4: Once the lcd is as clean as it can be, remove the inner screen protector from the digitizer. Be careful not to touch any of the digitizers viewing area (clear glass) after the screen protector is removed. Only grab the digitizer on the outer sides where the paint is.
Note: DO NOT do any digitizer inspection until step 6, the longer the glass and lcd are exposed to the outside elements allows for more dust and specks to get between the digitizer and the LCD.
Step 5: Lay the top 2 corners down on the backplate only, leaving the sides and bottom of the digitizer up away from the adhesive.
Note: The top screen protector of the digitizer still should not be removed until step 6.
Step 6: Once the top 2 corners are laid, lift the top screen protector to inspect the digitizer and the lcd for any missed specks/dust/smudges/factory defects/etc.
Do not remove the screen protector completely, after the inspection is done we will lay the screen protector back down to protect the ipad glass from damage/dirtiness until it reaches the customer.
Step 7: Using long dry Q-tips/Cotton Swabs, use the openings on the sides and bottom of the device where the digitizer has not been sealed yet to clean out any debris that has made its way in between the digitizer and the LCD.
Step 8: Using a long Q-tip/Cotton Swab with acetone will help to remove and smudges, grease, etc that may not be coming up with the dry swab. Only do short and small rotations with the swab on the problem area, if the swab starts smearing grab another new swab and reapply acetone to it. Continue this process until the digitizer and lcd are cleaned to QC standards.
Note: You can also use canned air to blow and specs or debris out of the device, this might help if the specs are numerous.
Step 9: Once the device is cleaned to QC standards, place the screen protector back over the top of the digitizer. This will prevent the digitizer from getting dirty or scratched during the rest of the instillation and shipping to the customer.
Step 10: Press the bottom right corner into place on the backplate, leaving the bottom left corner of the digitizer still up so that we will be able to make sure the ribbon cable has been fed between the lcd and the backplate correctly. See Step 11-12.
Step 11: The bottom left of the digitizer is held up till last to ensure the ribbon cable is correctly placed and will not be folded up onto the backplate or the lcd. Gently press the cable at the bend to make the cable straight and feed it in between the backplate side and the LCD.
Step 12: Once you see that the cable is straight and will go in between the LCD and backplate gently press the bottom left side of the digitizer into place on the backplate.
Step 13: Using your fingers press firmly around the entire perimeter of the digitizer and backplate to ensure the digitizer is laid properly and it is not sitting on or above the frame.
Step 14: Lift the top screen protector to take a final inspection of the device, once you approve that it is clean enough to pass our QC standards, place the screen protector back down over the digitizer and submit the device to QC. If you find that you missed something that needs to be cleaned, lift the side in question up and use steps 7-8 again until the glass is clean.
