Pressing Alt+V once the device has booted, should show the Chrome OS version in the top-right corner and have the S/N at the end.
If the serial doesn't show up, you can press Esc+Refresh+Power. It will take you to the "corrupt OS" screen.
Press Ctrl+D then Enter. After the device reboots, it will be at the OS verification screen.
Press the space-bar then press Enter. It should reboot one more time, but will actually load Chrome OS.
Alt+V should now have the serial added to the end of the Chrome OS version.
How to find Chromebook Serial Number when the following has occurred:
When the Owner/School has disabled Developer mode.
Also when they can be put into developer mode as well. Step 6

On the next screen which has the red exclamation mark, let the system proceed to the next screen automatically.
Then, on the next screen which states: “The device owner has disabled developer mode for this device…”
Hit the ctl + alt + right arrow at the Device owner has disabled developer mode screen it will take you into a read only version of dev mode to get the S/N, If the system reboots or the developer mode is not disabled continue below.
If the chromebook developer mode is not disabled, cancel the process of going into developer mode, re-enable the OS Verification and let the system reboot again.
When the chromebook restarts you will be at the screen that states: choose your language and network, you don’t need to fill this out just hit (ALT + V) and the serial number will display in the top right corner of the screen.
