Winter 2019-2020 Forecast Contest Winners
December through February this year was among the Top 10 warmest at Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Lansing. There was an incredible scarcity of snow at Muskegon compared to average, as the deep and cold air needed to support lake-effect was rare in this pattern (any cold air near the lake surface would frequently get capped by warm air aloft). Of course winter didn't want to go away late in the season. We all tried our best to increase snowfall totals in late April and early May, but it just didn't work out this time.
